Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a guest on the "Everything for Our Children" program broadcast on TRT RADYO 1. Tarhan made important evaluations regarding his book "Raising Children at Peace with Their Gender," which met readers through Family Publications. Stating that degendering is contrary to human biological and psychological nature, and that gender tendencies are epigenetic, not genetic, Tarhan emphasized that this is a changeable situation. Tarhan also said that the best investment is raising a good child.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, addressed the topic of “Raising Children at Peace with Their Gender” on TRT RADYO 1's "Everything for Our Children" program.
“This is contrary to human biological and psychological nature”
Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, emphasizing that degendering is contrary to human biological and psychological nature, began his words by saying; “Currently, we have become the country with the fastest declining population in the world. For example, our primary school student population is decreasing compared to 3-5 years ago. This is a very serious situation. That is, the number of students in public schools has decreased by ten percent. All of these show that these projects are succeeding. If one-third of the world's people believe in degendering, people will not marry, and if they have married, they will not have children. People who have not accepted their own gender do not want children. Even if there are children, they settle for one. Homosexual marriages are also supported by many laws. This is mostly applied by European countries, Northern European countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway. For example, the UK has started closing gender change centers. Because children are still 5-6 years old. They haven't distinguished between good and bad yet. They ask a child who doesn't know the concept of motherhood, or man-woman, 'Do you want to be a girl or a boy?' If a girl wants to be a boy, they treat her accordingly. You don't give this child the right to transfer money. You cannot legally, but you make the child undergo gender transfer. This is contrary to human biological nature.”
“Scientific robustness is very important in this era”
Referring to Nature Magazine's study titled ‘No Gay Gen’, Tarhan said; “The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Association of Child Health and Diseases Specialists, made a statement. They concluded that the use of these gender hormones and puberty blockers causes pathology. There are twice as many suicide cases among individuals using hormones. Psychiatric problems are 22 times more prevalent. The UK published a book titled ‘The Destructive Impact of Transgender Ideology’. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi Publications, we translated and published the book. I wrote a preface there concerning scientific evidence. Because scientific robustness is very important in this era. We must defend the truth with scientific robustness. Regarding scientific robustness, Nature Magazine published a study in 2019. This is the largest genetic study conducted on 477 thousand people in the world. They investigated ‘Is there a third gender gene?’. Nature Magazine published this as ‘No Gay Gen’ in August 2019. It can be found online. Based on this, the majority opinion was refuted. There was no evidence, only consensus. Genetically, there are two genders. What we call other gender tendencies are not genetic but epigenetic. Epigenetics is the change that the environment makes in genes. This is also a changeable situation.”
Three concepts related to gender…
Tarhan, speaking about three concepts related to gender, said; “The human brain communicates through concepts. It solves, understands, accepts, and decides problems through concepts. If the concepts are wrong, we arrive at the wrong conclusion. There are three concepts related to gender. The first concept is biological gender; male or female, there is no third gender. This has been scientifically proven. The second concept is gender identity. For example, a woman may feel like a man in terms of gender identity. Biologically she is a woman, but she says ‘I feel like a man’. In medicine, this is called gender dysphoria. It is translated as sexual dissatisfaction in Turkish. If a person does not live an identity consistent with their biological gender, if they do not feel like a woman or a man, this is a gender identity disorder. It is a clinical case. If help is requested, help is provided. If help is not requested, then it is that person's choice. The third is sexual orientation. Here, men meet their sexual needs with their own gender. This also applies to women and men. This is sexual orientation. For example, religions prohibit this third group.”
Entirely related to upbringing…
Referring to Sigmund Freud's observation, Tarhan said; “Freud says, ‘The cause of many psychiatric illnesses is latent homosexuality,’ and while investigating latent homosexuality, he states this: If a mother is excessively dominant, overly affectionate, but also anti-male when raising her child, speaking negatively about the father, the child identifies and takes their gender role from the mother, not the father. This is an epigenetic effect. The child grows up this way from an early age. For example, in a family where all children were girls. When the last child was also a girl, the family always dressed her like a boy. She behaves like a boy. They said, ‘Since it's not a boy, let's raise her like a boy.’ When the girl entered adolescence, they told her, ‘You are a girl, behave like this, not that.’ The girl, however, said, ‘I am happier this way, I won't change.’ They brought the girl to us at 17-18 years old. I said, ‘You're too late.’ It's entirely an educational mistake. They raised a child who was not at peace with their gender. When researching the childhood of boys who behave like girls, it is always seen that they grew up with older sisters, mothers, or aunts. When the role model is like that, they choose their gender role accordingly. That is, the child's brain perceived it as a sphere of affection. This is entirely related to upbringing.”
“The best investment is raising a good child”
Tarhan gave advice to parents, saying; “They should perform all roles separately: mother, father, spouse, homemaker, business person. Both women and men embrace the role of a business person so much that they neglect the roles of motherhood and fatherhood. When raising a child, we must ensure that we raise our child without role confusion. Children are influenced by external factors such as social media, environment, and school friends. If parents use a common language at home, if it is a safe and warm environment, that child does not fall under the influence of deviant ideologies. Even if they do, they quickly recover and improve. It is important for parents to use a common language here. Also, a child takes three things as examples: the mother, the father, and the relationship between the mother and father. If the parents' relationship is healthy, some children push boundaries. They drive the mother and father crazy. They do the opposite. In such situations, parents should not surrender leadership in the home to the child. Both parents will be joint leaders. If we have a warm and safe family, children are protected from the storms of social media, digital platforms, and popular culture. Therefore, first, we need to teach our children empathy. We must raise them with a sense of empathy. A child who considers the rights, needs, and feelings of others grows up with a sense of compassion. Such children do not fall into propaganda traps. Second, it is to teach social boundaries. Teaching a culture of respect. Having respect means having social norms. Lack of social norms and rules causes children to become victims of deviant ideas and ideologies. Therefore, the best investment is raising a good child.”
