In the shadow of the crises facing the world, a significant work questioning the relationship between the state, which has shaped history, and nature, has met readers. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of Üsküdar University's Environmental Ethics Platform, has published his new book titled "Gorbachev: A Leader's Environmental Ordeal".
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir characterized his book "Gorbachev: A Leader's Environmental Ordeal" by stating, "It is not merely a portrait of a political leader; it is also a call for a more just, more nature-friendly economic model for humanity." He expressed that the words of Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the USSR, were one of the book's inspirations: "We urgently need a new economic model… We cannot continue to live by ignoring environmental problems. The planet is overburdened... We do not have enough fresh water for people. Today, billions of people suffer from hunger. Therefore, the new model must take all these needs into account. This model should be more human- and nature-oriented... We are all interconnected, but we continue to act as if we are completely autonomous."
Prof. Dr. Özdemir stated, "Especially in these days when the Mining Law is being debated in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, I hope this book will contribute to the discussions and encourage us to rethink our responsibility towards nature."
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir invited his readers to acquire, share, and discuss his book, stating, "Let's think together, let's talk together for a liveable world."
The book was published by BİRİNCİ KİTAP publishing house.
