The EMEL (European Muslim Eco Lab) workshop, organized by the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Islam and Muslims in Europe at Sigmund Freud University and moderated by Dr. Fatima Kowanda Yassin, was held. The workshop, where Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir was a guest, saw the participation of many individuals working on Islam and Environment. The opening of the workshop, where various projects on environmental issues were discussed, was made by Sigmund Freud University Rector Prof. Dr. Alfred Pritz.

The 'Al Mizan: A Covenant for the Earth' declaration, which Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of the Philosophy Department at Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, is a part of, continues to be a focal point and subject of discussion in the international arena. Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir attended the EMEL workshop organized within Sigmund Freud University. Özdemir, discussing the emergence and content of 'Al Mizan: The World Environmental Covenant', drew attention to the consequences of global climate change by referring to humanity's heritage:

“The world and its ecosystems, which Allah created with a specific 'mizan, measure, order, duty, meaning, and purpose', are facing immense destruction, termed as environmental problems. We are using and destroying the resources that Allah creates and continues to create every day and every moment with 'a certain measure and balance', with an unlimited and irresponsible consumption mindset. The greatest evidence of this lies in the unprecedented scale of forest fires, floods, droughts, and the resulting material and spiritual problems experienced in the world and our country this summer,” he said.

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir concluded his speech by emphasizing that Al Mizan is a call to all Muslims for a sustainable development and environmental protection approach consistent with the fundamental principles of the Quran.
