Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, made statements about the advantages of the department for those who will choose health sciences for their university preferences.

“We encourage studies by supporting scientific research and projects”

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, stated that one of Üsküdar University's main goals is to ensure that, upon graduation or during their education, students enrolled in associate degree programs can align their courses as much as possible with those in bachelor's degree programs, should they transition. He said, “Of course, attention is paid to the course differences arising from programs being associate or bachelor's degrees. Faculty members teaching in bachelor's degree programs also provide support to associate degree programs in areas and subjects where needed.” Ertekin also mentioned that another important issue for the university is to encourage scientific research and projects by supporting them. He added, “In this context, abundant and sufficient opportunities are provided for our candidates interested in research in both our bachelor's and associate degree programs.”

Related departments contribute to students

Ertekin stated that graduating from Üsküdar University is a privilege in terms of the qualifications and numerical sufficiency of its faculty members, adding, “We are aware of this privilege, and feedback supports this information. The support provided by medical faculty lecturers in many departments of the Faculty of Health Sciences also provides additional contributions to our faculty. Furthermore, the presence of interrelated departments such as audiology, speech and language therapy, physiotherapy-rehabilitation, and child development within our faculty offers valuable contributions to our students regarding multidisciplinary approaches and education.” Ertekin also added that students studying in associate degree programs have the opportunity to pursue bachelor's degrees, and those in bachelor's degree programs can specialize by continuing into master's and doctoral programs available in many fields. He concluded, “Those educated in the health sector have the opportunity to work wherever people are present, offering services such as healing individuals who have lost their health, providing preventive health services, education services, and research services.”

Being able to have a profession that suits one's personality and expectations is one of the greatest opportunities

“Individuals considering a career in medicine and health are expected to possess qualities such as tolerance, good communication, love for humanity, analytical thinking, propensity for teamwork, self-sacrifice, and dedication.” said Ertekin, pointing out that if these qualities are not sufficiently present, unhappiness at work, decreased work efficiency, and a process of questioning oneself, one's job, and one's life will begin. Ertekin underlined that problems would emerge after this process, adding, “Being able to have a profession that suits one's personality and expectations is one of the greatest opportunities in life.”

“Integration of theoretical knowledge with practical training is essential”

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, touching upon the fact that digitalization and artificial intelligence are present in every aspect of our lives and make our work easier, said, “However, we will see what kind of positive or negative changes autonomously operating artificial intelligence systems will bring to our lives in the future.” Ertekin concluded his words by emphasizing that in a professional group where applied sciences like health are indispensable, the integration of acquired theoretical knowledge with practical training is essential: “Sufficient support and working opportunities are offered to all our students in this regard at our laboratories, and with our practice and science partner, NPİSTANBUL Hastanesi and Medical Centers. I congratulate all our students who have worked hard and achieved a certain success, and their parents who have provided them with all kinds of support, and I wish them success in choosing their desired profession and in their education. I also recommend that candidates who have not achieved the success they expected continue to work, and I want to express my belief that they will be successful in choosing the right profession for themselves.”
