Prof. Dr. Ahmet Konrot Presented with ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Award

Konrot, who has carried out significant work in the field of Speech and Language in the international arena, was deemed worthy of “The Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution in International Achievement” award at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association 2024 (ASHA) Convention. Representing Üsküdar not only with his work in Turkey but also with his outstanding international achievements, Konrot was presented with his award in Seattle.

Konrot, who has undertaken significant work in academia and clinic in the field of Speech and Language, received “The Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution in International Achievement” award at the 2024 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention held this year in Seattle.

Prof. Dr. İlknur Maviş and Prof. Dr. S. Seyhun Topbaş were also presented with their awards.

They qualified for the award through efforts such as opening the first Speech and Language Therapy program in Turkey, organizing various seminars, conferences, and in-service trainings with academic staff support at national and international levels from both within the field and related areas, facilitating the opening of speech and language therapy centers in universities and providing therapy services in these centers to those in need, and ensuring the sustainability and recognition of the profession by participating in international projects and conferences. 

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association ASHA and Areas of Work:

ASHA continues its activities as a professional, scientific, and accredited association with 234 thousand members consisting of speech and language therapists and audiologists not only in the USA but also from various countries. For over 70 years, ASHA has been recognizing its members for their contributions to their professions in many areas of work. The eligibility requirements for members nominated for “The Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contribution in International Achievement” (which is one of these awards) include necessities such as “program development and management, distinguished publications and research, organizing international trainings, and providing therapy services to individuals with communication disorders, etc.”  However, this specific award is given to individuals or groups who create an impact for the profession through such work in a country other than the USA. The success can be focused on a specific time period or represent a widespread, lifelong contribution. For 2024, this award was given only to candidates from Turkey and Australia.
