Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, met with students as part of the Dean-Student Meeting. Ertekin, who listened to the students' demands, suggestions, and problems, provided information on topics of interest regarding education processes, internship opportunities, student clubs, and campus life.

The Dean-Student Meeting, organized by Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, was held at NP Health Campus Ibn Sina Auditorium and Çarşı Campus Emir Nebi Conference Hall.

At the meeting, students had the opportunity to directly express the problems they encountered and their expectations in university life.

“Our main goal is to bring our expectations to a common ground”

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin stated that meetings held at the dean's level are important for establishing direct communication with students and evaluating mutual expectations. Emphasizing that students can express their thoughts freely, Ertekin said; “We used to hold these meetings at the rectorate level, now we plan to do them at the dean's level. Since both you requested it and we had such an intention, we wanted to be together with you. Our main goal here is to bring our expectations to a common ground. Your expectations, our expectations; we will try to align them and achieve a better outcome. If you have different ideas or thoughts, do not hesitate to express them. This will be a meeting planned entirely for that purpose.”

Our goal is solution…

Ertekin, who also touched upon the communication channels students can apply to for problems they encounter, stated that department heads, academic advisors, and the dean's office are there for students. Ertekin, stating that in case problems cannot be resolved with the relevant units, students can apply to the Solution Center, said; “Every application you submit to the Solution Center is evaluated with the knowledge of our faculty, our rector, and the senior management, including our chairman of the board of trustees. Please do not hesitate to do so. Our goal is a solution. If you have a problem, you can always apply to the Solution Center.”

“Every piece of information is very valuable to us”

Ertekin, stating that student satisfaction surveys are an important source of feedback for university administration, asked students to respond to the surveys carefully. Ertekin, stating that the questions in the surveys are evaluated by the university and senior management, said; “You fill out a survey during the process of seeing your grades. All the questions in that survey are examined individually by our university and senior management. We evaluate one by one the issues where our students are satisfied, expect a solution, or where satisfaction is not very good. Therefore, when answering those surveys, rather than rushing to see my grade as soon as possible, I would like you to pay attention to the feedback you provide us. Because every piece of information is very valuable to us, and we want to evaluate how we can produce a solution.”

“Don't miss out on life, maintain balance”

Ertekin, stating that university years are not solely about academic success, advised students to also dedicate time to social and cultural activities. Ertekin, reminding that there are over 90 student clubs at the university, said; “University life is not just a period of education in a person's life. You are all young. Our main expectation from you is to come to school, be successful, and pass your exams, but Istanbul is a beautiful city. Also look at the social aspects of Istanbul. Dedicate time to activities you love and things you enjoy. Don't miss out on life, maintain balance. Travel, go to the cinema, to the theater, also do your studies, try to do everything at once.”

Students' demands and suggestions were heard

In the continuation of the meeting, students shared their views on various topics such as club activities, library access, and student affairs processes.
Ertekin, who listened to the demands from students one by one, stated that the issues would be conveyed to the relevant units and senior management for evaluation.
The meeting concluded with Prof. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin conveying his wishes for success to the students and a group photo.
