Preventing medicine from reaching those in need is a crime against humanity!

Public Health Specialist, Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, evaluating the lack of food and medicine entering Gaza and the health problems that may arise, said, "For any state, regardless of the reason, to prevent medicine from reaching those in need, without distinguishing any reason, is considered a crime against humanity." Sur also drew attention to the risk of epidemic diseases in Gaza.

Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, evaluating the discussions regarding the entry of food and medicine into Gaza, said, "We watched and continue to watch what is happening there with bleeding hearts. These are moments when the knife is at the bone..."

Prof. Dr. Sur stated that healthcare professionals stand with all humanity, and continued as follows:

When there is no peace, health in that country is considered to be under all kinds of threat...

"There should not have been a war. If there is a war, health disappears. The WHO signed an international declaration in Ottawa, Canada, in 1986. It is a very famous declaration in public health. Here, 8 prerequisites for peace and health were listed. They said, 'If those 8 articles are not present in a society, health cannot be spoken of in that society.' Do you know what the first one is? Peace... When there is no peace, health in that country is considered to be under all kinds of threat.

Beyond that, there are healthy water, healthy food, clean air conditions, healthy housing conditions, access to health services when needed, and also the WHO's list of essential medicines."

Preventing medicine from reaching those in need is considered a crime against humanity

Prof. Dr. Sur noted that even if convicted of the most serious crime, it is a human right for these medicines to be delivered to that person, and said, "For any state, regardless of the reason, to prevent medicine from reaching those in need, without distinguishing any reason, is considered a crime against humanity."

Risk of epidemic diseases in Gaza...

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, also addressing the risk of epidemic diseases in Gaza, said, "As an acute, or emergency, situation, people can die from hemorrhage, heart attacks, or because kidney patients cannot access dialysis, and dozens of cancer patients can die without receiving treatment. Furthermore, there will also be deaths due to injuries caused by the war."
