Tözeniş also lists the steps to be taken for making the right choice.

The Most Suitable Alternative Should Be Chosen for a Happy Life
Preference and Career Counselor, Expert Psychological Counselor Ece Tözeniş, stated that due to human nature, individuals cannot adapt to their surroundings with instinctive reactions and therefore have to make decisions at every stage of their lives. She said, “For an individual to continue their life happily, they must choose the most suitable option among the alternatives they encounter. Decision-making is defined as the act of taking action to alleviate distress when there is more than one path leading to an object, person, or situation believed to satisfy a need, or when it is not certain whether a desired goal is appropriate and sufficient to meet the need. When we have a goal, and in the developed world where there are many alternatives, decision-making becomes even more difficult.”
You Should Have a List Created According to Your Wishes, Interests, and Abilities!
Tözeniş reminded that the 2023-YKS results will be announced on July 20, stating, “Candidates will choose the most suitable departments for themselves among the alternatives they create, in line with their wishes and according to their success rankings. Having pre-preparations before making your choices will ease your path to making decisions that will make you happy. When we go shopping, we prepare a list beforehand to buy what we need. You, too, should have a list created according to your wishes, interests, and abilities, regardless of the number, before you start making your choices.”
Create Your Preferences According to Your Success Ranking, Not Your Score!
Tözeniş listed her recommendations to students who will make university preferences, to minimize their anxiety levels during this period, as follows:
-Until the results are announced, do a lot of research about the departments and universities you are considering.
-If you have the opportunity, attend the 'Preference Days' organized by universities and get information from academics and university students. Learn about the facilities provided by the university.
-Get support from preference counselors regarding your choices. They will help you change your perspective by offering different alternatives based on their experiences.
-Create your preferences according to your success ranking, not your score. Since the success status of students taking the exam changes every year, comparing with success rankings instead of scores leads us to a healthier outcome.
-Since YKS is a ranking exam, preferences are also based on a certain ranking. When creating your preference list, take your success ranking into account and create your list according to the departments and universities you most desire. You can place the departments that will make you happy among your alternatives at the top of the list.
-Be sure to examine the preference guide published by ÖSYM. It is your responsibility to know the special conditions related to the departments you are considering. Also, in the guide, you will be able to see newly opened departments and the quotas for all departments. Knowing these will help you make more accurate choices.
-During both this period and the preference period, always confirm the accuracy of statements made on social media from the YÖK or ÖSYM websites. These periods are when information pollution is highest.
-This is your career decision; listen to those who try to help you, but make the final decision for yourself.
-Regardless of the outcome, remember that your effort and hard work are more valuable than anything else.
