Üsküdar University has completed its academic orientation programs within the scope of Preference Days, which will be held between July 19 and August 11. The first session took place in the Emirnebi Conference Hall at Çarşı Campus, with the participation of the Faculties of Dentistry, Medicine, Health Sciences, Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Vocational School of Health Services, and the Foreign Languages Coordination Office. The afternoon session was held in the Ibn-i Sina Auditorium at NP Health Campus. This year, Üsküdar University will monitor the process for the first time with real-time data. Thus, where and what kind of experience candidates are having can now be instantly tracked. 

The orientation program, held with the participation of the administrative and academic staff, brought together academics from the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, Vocational School of Health Services of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, and the Foreign Languages Coordination Office. Information regarding the preference process, which began with the announcement of scores, was provided by Özgür Akoğlan, Manager of Educational Institutions and Guidance Services, and Exp. Psych. Couns. Ece Tözeniş.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “University is a space for freely generating ideas”

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar University and Psychiatrist, drew attention to the indecision experienced by young people during the preference period and emphasized that the university should be an institution that gives hope to students during this process. Prof. Dr. Tarhan said, “The concepts in our logo are not coincidental; criticizability, pluralism, participation, and libertarianism are our motto. We want students to be able to express themselves freely here. The tendency for young people to go abroad is increasing. This is related to freedom of expression and the environment of trust in Turkey. At this university, we offer young people an environment where they can feel comfortable. We want them to feel a sense of belonging and trust. The university is a space for freely generating ideas.”

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “A heartfelt welcome is very important”

Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör stated that this year’s preference process was more challenging due to the decrease in the number of candidates and the increase in program diversity. Drawing attention to the importance of an effective and sincere preference process, Prof. Dr. Güngör said, “Our biggest advantage is our friendly faces and sincere approach. When students visiting the campus are personally attended to, they choose Üsküdar. We frequently encounter candidates who say, ‘No one paid attention to us at other universities, but we received attention here.’ Therefore, a heartfelt welcome is very important.” 

Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel: “Powerful analysis can be made with real-time data”

Providing information about the new system integrated into the preference process, Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Türker Tekin Ergüzel stated that real-time data was accessed for the first time this year; “Where and what kind of experience candidates had can now be instantly tracked. This data will provide us with powerful analysis and planning opportunities. Powerful analysis can be made with real-time data.” 

Exp. Psych. Couns. Özgür Akoğlan: “Most candidates were targeted and conscious”

Özgür Akoğlan, Manager of Educational Institutions and Guidance Services and Exp. Psych. Couns., stated that the start of the preference process by ÖSYM over the weekend was a surprise, but all preparations had been completed beforehand. Akoğlan said; “As a whole staff, we were ready. Most candidates were targeted and conscious. We met many candidates who specifically wanted Üsküdar University, which made us very happy.” 

Exp. Psych. Couns. Ece Tözeniş: “Instant tracking is possible with the QR code system”

Providing information about the digital system integrated into the preference process, Exp. Psych. Couns. Ece Tözeniş stated that a three-pronged system developed allows for data flow at the candidate, student guide, and counselor levels. Tözeniş said; “Now, movements across all campuses can be monitored instantly, not just at the end of the day. Instant tracking is possible with the QR code system. Information such as which student met which guide and how long they stayed is tracked through the system. This facilitates both coordination and evaluation.”
