The power of care and innovative practices in nursing were discussed

Within the scope of Nursing Week, a symposium titled ‘The Power of Care and Innovative Practices in Nursing’ was held by the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department. The symposium, attended by expert nurses in their field, discussed the power of care and economic dimensions of nursing. The event, which focused on innovative practices in nursing, also drew attention to artificial intelligence technology. The program, which also evaluated the impact of digitalization on nursing, included student presentations supported by TÜBİTAK. 

The event, held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Sağlık Yerleşkesi Ibni Sina Auditorium, was moderated by Nursing Department Lecturer Derya Deniz. 

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: “Nurses are a very important role model in society”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin delivered the opening speech of the program. Ertekin said: “Nurses are the most important leg of teamwork in the healthcare field. If you look at the very beginning of the health profession, it starts with midwifery, followed by nurses and doctors. Nurses are a very important role model in society. They exhibit a very strong stance, and I believe this will never be broken. Because its infrastructure, origin, and rules are very clear. In recent years, the understanding of education and the approach to health have changed. Especially with the entry of computers into our lives and the healthcare sector, and recently with artificial intelligence coming to the agenda in many areas, perhaps job anxieties have started to emerge. When used positively, they will be extremely smart and powerful processes.”

Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan: “A very special profession that touches human birth and death”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department Head Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan delivered the opening speeches at the symposium. Doğan said: “Every year, we have started to make our voice heard a little stronger. We are trying to show this strength more in our events. The International Council of Nurses, as the main representative of associations from over 140 countries today, determines themes from important issues affecting global health annually and requests these themes to be processed. This year's theme is built around the economic power of nursing care, with the slogan ‘Nurses Our Future’. Nurses are the leading group in the ranking of most trusted professions. Indeed, it is a very special profession that touches human birth and death. A profession that must be carried out with compassion. Nurses are resilient. These developments have been achieved through great struggles throughout history. Nursing will always reach a better point with these efforts.”

“The Power of Nursing Care and its Economic Dimension” discussed

The 1st session of the symposium was titled “The Power of Nursing Care and its Economic Dimension.” The session was chaired by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department Head Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan. Dr. Hümeyra Zengin, Director of Nursing Services at Hacettepe University Adult Hospital and a Board Member of THD, participated online in the session and presented her talk titled ‘Investment in the Nursing Profession and its Contribution to Health Economics.’ The other speaker of the session was Uzm. Saliha Koç, Nursing Director of Acıbadem Healthcare Group. Koç shared her presentation titled ‘Nursing Care Quality and Economic Dimension’ with the participants.

In the 2nd session, the topic of “The Power of Nursing Care and Innovative Practices” was discussed. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal, a faculty member of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department. At the symposium, Prof. Dr. Yurdanur Dikmen from Kocaeli Health and Technology University Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department presented her talk titled ‘Technology and Artificial Intelligence Applications in Nursing Education.’ Dr. Hatice Demirdağ, Faculty Member of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, presented her talk titled ‘Digitalization and Nursing Care.’ Dr. Elçin Babaoğlu, Faculty Member of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, presented her talk titled ‘Digital Applications in Psychiatric Care.’ Dr. Aydan Akkurt Yalçıntürk, Faculty Member of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department, shared her presentation titled ‘Innovative Approaches in Geriatric and Home Care Practices’ with the participants, and the second session concluded. 

A music feast was held…

A music feast took place at the Nursing Week Symposium held under the title “The Power of Care and Innovative Practices in Nursing.” Live performances were presented by 4th-year Nursing Department student Aleyna Dikmedaş, 3rd-year student Simay Boyraz, and 2nd-year student Berfin İzgi. Students also accompanied the singing part. 

“TÜBİTAK Supported Nursing Students Project Presentations” took place

The 3rd and final session of the symposium featured “TÜBİTAK Supported Nursing Students Project Presentations.” The session was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sebahat Ateş from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Nursing Department. 

Bilge Macit, Şevval İrem Dalcalı, and Şule Can, who carried out their work under the title ‘Evaluation of Attitudes Towards Cancer Screenings of Individuals Applying to Hospital Outpatient Clinics,’ conducted their studies under the supervision of Dr. Hatice Demirdağ, Faculty Member. Şevval İrem Dalcalı presented the project at the symposium. 

Öykü Ergül, who carried out her work under the title ‘Relationship Between Preoperative Pain Beliefs and Surgical Fear with Postoperative Pain in Surgical Patients,’ continued her project under the supervision of Dr. Hatice Demirdağ, Faculty Member. Ergül shared her project with the participants. 

Berna Can, Reyhan Orhan, and Tabarek Alobaidi, who carried out their work under the title ‘Barriers to Nurses Providing Individualized Care,’ conducted their studies under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sebahat Ateş. Berna Can presented the project at the symposium. 

Ümran Yılmaz, Halis Kara, Fatma Sema Boncuk, and Edanur Emir, who carried out their work under the title ‘The Effect of Peer Mentoring in Nursing Skills Training on Students' Perception of Learning and Success in Skill Application: “Randomized Controlled Study,”’ conducted their studies under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal. Ümran Yılmaz presented the project at the symposium. 

Ecrin Babur, Onur Taş, and Malika Jorayeva, who carried out their work under the title ‘The Effect of Human Values Held by Generation Z Nursing Students on Acquiring Professional Values,’ conducted their studies under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal. Ecrin Babur presented the project at the symposium. 

The event concluded with a group photo session after the presentation of appreciation certificates.
