About the Book:

The use of medicinal plants as medicine is as old as human history. Folk medicine (phytotherapy) began with the first human who applied plant sap to a wound and observed its positive outcome. Early humans knew about the healing power of plants. For example, by chewing different organs and parts of plants such as flowers, fruits, seeds, stems, leaves, roots, and bark, they tried to understand from their taste and smell whether they were medicinal or poisonous.

The fact that Turkey, a natural pharmacy, is extremely rich in biodiversity, coupled with our people's regional fondness for medicinal plants, has accelerated phytotherapy studies. This auxiliary textbook, primarily prepared for our students, aims to provide information based on scientific data regarding the field of phytotherapy, authorized practitioners who will work in this area, and the plants currently used in phytotherapy.

This book features phytotherapeutic studies of 288 plant species found in the herbarium. For these phytotherapeutically studied plants, their distribution in Turkey, collection regions, used parts, active compounds, and medicinal efficacy values are explained. Additionally, plants and their effects that have gained new importance in current phytotherapy in Turkey are included, introduced with 288 original color photographs taken by us, and their phytotherapeutic properties are listed alongside them.
