Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, who was the first to take the podium during the welcoming speeches, said: “When we established the Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, we were very confident in our energy. Later, our staff expanded, and we gained valuable individuals as administrators. Our shortcoming in the 4th grade was the support of clinician instructors. We needed very strong support. That support came from you. We extend our gratitude to you. The key word for success is sustainability. We are trying our best to sustain this. With this momentum, we believe that we will achieve better and more beautiful results in the future.”

Dicle Koyuncu: “The contributions of our instructors who guide us are invaluable…”

Dicle Koyuncu, the internship representative from the 4th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, emphasized the importance of practical training alongside theoretical knowledge. Koyuncu stated: “The outstanding support you have provided throughout our entire education, the solid theoretical and practical knowledge, hospital training, and your guidance during our internships have laid a very important foundation for our education. Especially the contributions of our instructors who guide us at every step of our education are invaluable to us. On behalf of my group and my other friends, I extend my most sincere thanks for your support during our educational process.”

Muhammet Fatih Gülseven: “The experiences we gained in the field helped us to ground our theoretical knowledge”

Muhammet Fatih Gülseven, the internship representative from the 5th-year students of the Faculty of Medicine, stated that they took their medical education to the next level with internships they carried out in different hospitals. Gülseven said: “The discipline and experiences we gained in the professional field helped us to lay our theoretical knowledge on a more solid foundation. We continued our professional development under the guidance of our instructors. I would like to state that our internships have been productive since the beginning of the year. These experiences enabled us to approach future problems with better preparation. I thank you for the knowledge and experience you have given us.”

Ataşehir Memorial Hastanesi Medical Director Dr. Dursun Ali Şener, in his speech, emphasized the importance of cooperation. Şener stated: “I thank Üsküdar University for their kind invitation. Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak: “Being a doctor is a profession that serves humanity and life”

Üsküdar University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak underlined that being a doctor is a profession that serves humanity and life. Koçak stated: “As Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine, we continue our education. I thank you for the opportunities you provide to our students. Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör emphasized that training physicians is a team effort. Güngör stated: “When we set out as Üsküdar University, we knew it would not be an easy journey. However, we have a very idealistic academic staff at our university. For Üsküdar University, there are no impossibilities, difficulties, or despair; everything is built on possibility. Everything is planning, hope, but beyond hope, it is strategy, goal, vision. Therefore, we embarked on this journey with a visionary academic staff. Every touch to medical students is a touch to humanity. For this reason, all of us, together with you, continue this journey with this awareness. In the very near future, our medical faculty students will join the world of medicine with your support and contributions.”

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “If we can activate the sense of curiosity, the desire to learn increases”

Finally, Üsküdar University Founding Rector and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who came to the podium, emphasized that they want to make these programs traditional. Tarhan stated: “We truly value our students and strive for their good education, which is why we greatly need the exchange of ideas that will take place here. This exchange of ideas is very important, especially for increasing the experiences and sense of belonging among students. People gain experience by living through certain things during their student years. There is a beautiful old saying: ‘Curiosity is the teacher of knowledge.’ If we can activate the sense of curiosity and wonder in our students, their desire to learn increases. The highest level of learning is learning by explaining to others. If you want to learn a subject permanently, try to explain it to someone at the first opportunity. I have seen great benefits in approaching our students this way. Our students benefit greatly from internships, and our instructors try to include them in the system. When educating a student, we prepare them for life, we work for them to be good physicians. Medicine is a wonderful profession, but teaching in medicine is an even more wonderful job. One sees this as they gain experience.”

The dinner, hosted by Üsküdar University, concluded after a group photo session.
