Photographer Kübra Çelik: “Emotion is essential to photography”

An interactive event titled ‘Social Media Photography’ was held within the scope of the Design Workshop by the Üsküdar University Visual Communication Design Department. Photographer Kübra Çelik participated as a guest in the event. In the event where practical photography was demonstrated, students had the opportunity to reinforce the information they learned.

The event, held at Üsküdar University South Campus Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall, was moderated by Research Assistant Simge Kırteke. The Head of the Visual Communication Design Department, Prof. Dr. And Algül, also attended the event.

“It is difficult for a person to discover something about themselves”

Photographer Kübra Çelik emphasized that when creating a personal project, one should start with oneself; “It is difficult for a person to find themselves, to discover something about themselves. This is where asking yourself many questions comes into play. Look at yourself from the outside; ‘What would make them happy to shoot, or what would make them successful?’ The answer to these questions is where the result lies.” she said.

Emotion is essential to photography…

Çelik underlined that inspiration can be found everywhere; “Emotion is essential to photography, but it’s not the same in every photo. If the photo you take is a modern photo, you cannot capture something very dynamic in it. You learn this by seeing. As you take more photos, you become integrated with yourself. I especially emphasize that watching plenty of videos and short films will broaden your horizons. You should look at example videos and photos a lot. I have been a photographer for thirteen years, but I still watch photo shoots while working. People wonder what it will add, but you will find something every time.” she said.

Conceptual photo shoot was held

Following the presentation, a specific concept was created with the items Kübra Çelik brought with her, and a photo shoot was carried out.

Looking at the photos taken by the students, Çelik gave advice.

The event concluded with a Q&A session followed by a group photo.
