The first spring semester event of the Philosophy Department of Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was held at the Kuzguncuk Meeting Hall with the participation of Doctoral Candidate Salima Bisserni, who is a guest student at Üsküdar University.

At the event, Bisserni, who is originally a doctoral candidate at Alger 2 University, completed her presentation around a highly interesting topic such as Heidegger and Poetry.

The event, moderated by Research Assistant Dr. Merve Arlı Özekes from the Philosophy Department, was attended by Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of Philosophy Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Yazıcı, Deputy Dean and Lecturer Dr. Baver Demircan from the Philosophy Department, and Research Assistant Deniz Atacan, as well as many academicians from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

“Being is an intention first imprinted on the soul”

Bisserni began her speech by quoting Ibn Sina's words, “Being is an intention first imprinted on the soul,” and grounded her presentation by emphasizing that being is not merely a word, but also a timeless metaphysical question. At this point, Bisserni, who presented what metaphysics is through the philosophy of Aristotle, expressed the relationship of Heidegger's philosophy with poetry in the second part of her speech, articulating thoughts from Anaximander, Parmenides, and Heraclitus as poetry. Bisserni concluded her presentation by addressing concepts that give meaning to human life, such as being and time, used by ancient Greek philosophers.
