An event titled “Entering the Sector: Getting to Know Podiatric Products” was organized by the Podiatry Program of Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (VSHS). The event hosted Papila Kozmetik Co-Founder Aydan Yılmaz as a guest speaker. Yılmaz shared evaluations on the types of podiatric products, their areas of use, and current developments in the sector.

The event, held at the Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Podiatry Laboratory, was attended by Instructor Meldağ Turhan from the VSHS Podiatry Program and students.

Aydan Yılmaz: “Feet are the most neglected part of the body”

In her speech, Aydan Yılmaz drew attention to the importance of foot health and emphasized that feet are the most neglected part of the body. Yılmaz stated: “From the moment we are born, our feet carry our entire load, yet unfortunately they are the part we value the least. Ninety five percent of babies are born with healthy feet, but in adulthood this rate drops to 20 percent. In other words, only one out of every five people on the street has healthy feet. The biggest reason for this is that foot health is not given enough importance.”

Yılmaz noted that incorrect shoe choices and improper pedicure practices negatively affect foot health and emphasized the importance of professional support at this point.

“Professional support is essential in foot health problems”

Pointing out the role of podiatrists in protecting foot health, Yılmaz said: “The solution to foot health problems is to apply to podiatrists, in other words to specialists. When necessary, combined treatments carried out with surgeons and dermatologists are the most accurate approach. Our products are approved by the Ministry of Health Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy Directorate and are prepared within the limits of the European Union Cosmetic Commission.”

An aesthetic solution for nail fungus: Onychoplasty

During the event, solutions addressing nail fungus, one of the most challenging processes in podiatry, and the aesthetic problems that arise during treatment were also discussed.

Yılmaz provided information about Onychoplasty, a prosthetic nail application, which helps patients stay socially active. Yılmaz said: “When nail fungus is cleaned, an unaesthetic appearance may remain. Especially in the summer months, patients are disturbed by this situation. With the onychoplasty application, after the fungal area is cleaned, the nail is reshaped with special gels and a healthy appearance is achieved from the outside.”

“We are not taking a break from treatment, we are taking a pause”

Emphasizing that the onychoplasty application provides social comfort, Yılmaz explained the process. Yılmaz said: “In order not to cut off the fungus from contact with oxygen, we apply this procedure for a maximum of 30 to 35 days. When the period ends, we remove the prosthesis and continue the treatment from where we left off. The fact that the gels used contain antifungal active ingredients supports the treatment process.”

The importance of foot bath foam was explained

The event also addressed the importance of foot bath foams used in podiatric care. Stating that these products provide great convenience in ensuring the hygiene of feet that remain closed all day, Yılmaz expressed that rinse free foams containing menthol and piroctone olamine make the application process more practical.

The event ended with a group photo session.
