An event titled “Introduction to the Sector: Getting to Know Podiatric Products” was organized by Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Podiatry Program. Aydan Yılmaz, Co-founder of Papila Kozmetik, attended the event as a guest speaker. Yılmaz evaluated the types of podiatric products, their areas of use, and current developments in the sector.

The event, held at Üsküdar University Çarşı Campus Podiatry Laboratory, was attended by Lecturer Meldağ Turhan from the SHMYO Podiatry Program and students.

Aydan Yılmaz: “Feet are the most neglected organ of the body”
In her speech, Aydan Yılmaz emphasized the importance of foot health, highlighting that feet are the most neglected organ of the body. Yılmaz said, “Our feet, which have carried all our weight since birth, are unfortunately the organ we value the least. 95% of babies are born with healthy feet, but this rate drops to 20% in adulthood. This means only one in five people on the street has healthy feet. The biggest reason for this is that foot health is not given enough importance.”
Stating that wrong shoe choices and incorrect pedicure applications negatively affect foot health, Yılmaz pointed out the importance of expert support at this point.
“Expert support is essential for foot health problems”
Yılmaz, drawing attention to the role of podiatrists in protecting foot health, said; “The solution to foot health problems is to consult podiatrists, i.e., specialists. Combined treatments carried out with surgeons and dermatologists when necessary are the most appropriate approach. Our products are approved by the Ministry of Health, Pharmacy and Drug Administration and prepared within the limits of the European Union Cosmetics Commission.”

Aesthetic solution for nail fungus: Onycoplasty
At the event, solutions for nail fungus, one of the most challenging processes in podiatry, and the aesthetic problems arising during the treatment process were also discussed.
Yılmaz provided information about Onycoplasty (prosthetic nail application), which helps patients stay connected to their social lives. Yılmaz stated, “When nail fungus is cleaned, an unaesthetic appearance may remain. Patients are especially bothered by this situation in the summer months. With Onycoplasty application, after the fungal area is cleaned, the nail is reshaped with special gels, achieving a healthy appearance when viewed from the outside.”
“We are taking a break, not stopping the treatment”
Emphasizing that Onycoplasty application provides social comfort, Yılmaz explained the application process. Yılmaz said, “To prevent the fungus from coming into contact with oxygen, we apply this treatment for a maximum of 30–35 days. When the period is over, we remove the prosthesis and continue the treatment from where we left off. The fact that the gels used contain anti-fungal active ingredients supports the treatment process.”
The importance of foot bath foam was explained
The event also discussed the importance of foot bath foams used in podiatric care. Yılmaz stated that these products offer great convenience in ensuring the hygiene of feet that remain covered all day, and that foams containing menthol and piroctone olamine, which do not require rinsing, make the application process practical.
The event concluded with a group photo session.
