An enthusiastic white coat ceremony was held for the students of Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.
The opening speeches of the ceremony, held in the Ibn-i Sina Auditorium of the Faculty of Health Sciences, were delivered by Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müge Arslan, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müge Arslan: “I kindly request that you never forget that you are a representative of a very important profession.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müge Arslan, Head of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics; “You are actually in the final stage before your profession; you have had a wonderful academic year, and the most important vision of healthcare professionals is to do beneficial work, and you have reached the day you wear your white coat. I kindly request that you never forget that you are a representative of a very important profession that intervenes in life from the embryonic stage, holding a highly significant role in society. My belief is endless that you will successfully continue your professional life without discrimination based on religion, language, or race, with an understanding of equal service, in the light of science, and without ever giving up on research.” she stated.

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin; “The whole world has very big problems related to obesity.”

Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, emphasizing that obesity is still a major threat to students wearing white coats; “I see a very young and dynamic group in front of me. Probably your educational staff is very young and dynamic. It's evident from your instructor already. Wearing a white coat is quite important in our profession. You will step into health, you will touch people, you will make positive and beautiful contributions, and provide good guidance for people's health and well-being, for their troubles. This is one aspect, and your profession has actually gained importance recently. When we look at the media, when nutrition and dietetics are mentioned, people often think of artists or groups of people in certain formal structures, with a dominant visual aspect. But in reality, people, the whole world, have very big problems related to obesity. As weight increases, you will be among a group where many diseases of the system, from cancer to heart diseases, are negatively affected. The economy has also started to be greatly affected in this direction.

People are now experiencing great difficulties in accessing many foods that are our basic building blocks. You will be in a professional group that will guide people towards healthy nutrition in this regard. The point our instructor emphasized is very important: all kinds of people will come before us. As healthcare professionals, we do not judge people; our most important duty is to support those who seek our help and support, regardless of their thoughts, thoughtlessness, beliefs, disbeliefs, professions, genders, or races.” he stated.

The White Coat Ceremony, where the joy of graduation was experienced, concluded with a group souvenir photo being taken.
