An ‘Accreditation Process Student Information’ meeting was held by Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing. Nursing students were informed about the accreditation process during the meeting.
The meeting, held at Üsküdar University NP Health Campus Ibn Sina Auditorium, was attended by Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal, Head of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Lecturer Hatice Demirdağ, Dr. Lecturer Elçin Babaoğlu, Dr. Lecturer Nuriye Pekcan, Dr. Lecturer Meftun Akgün, and nursing students.
Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal: “We are the instructors, and you are the learners”
Prof. Dr. Nurcan Uysal, Head of the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, stated that accreditation will expand students' opportunities and increase employment prospects. Uysal emphasized that accreditation will facilitate mutual recognition of internship qualifications, learning outcomes from study abroad periods, and horizontal-vertical student mobility in higher education; “We are the instructors, and you are the learners...” she said.
Dr. Lecturer Hatice Demirdağ: “Accreditation shows our quality”
Dr. Lecturer Hatice Demirdağ underlined that the foundation of accreditation is quality and that this quality will be documented through accreditation; “Accreditation shows our quality. We are actually documenting our quality through an institution. It doesn't mean we are of poor quality just because we haven't received it yet; we will document it. Because what is not written is not done, what is not proven is not proven. With this quality assurance, we aim to train qualified graduates who can keep up with the requirements of the age, are equipped with universal competencies, and are compatible with local realities. You are also one of the most important stakeholders in this process because our goal is to educate you,” she stated.
Dr. Lecturer Elçin Babaoğlu provided information to students
Dr. Lecturer Elçin Babaoğlu reminded students that they can make appointments for psychological counseling through the Health, Culture and Sports Department (SKS) when needed. She also stated that they can meet with academic advisors during office hours and find answers to their questions about topics such as employment and internships in the career counseling system.
Dr. Lecturer Nuriye Pekcan explained the program outcomes
Dr. Lecturer Nuriye Pekcan explained the program outcomes, which aim to provide students with specific knowledge, skills, and equipment throughout their studies. She added that students would provide information about the levels they perceive themselves to be at by conducting self-assessments.
Dr. Lecturer Meftun Akgün: Learning continues for a lifetime”
Dr. Lecturer Meftun Akgün stated that science changes very rapidly, saying, “In healthcare, there is no such thing as 'this information is like this, I learned it today, and I can do it for a lifetime.' What we consider correct today can be disproven by studies conducted tomorrow, and that evidence can be eliminated.”
Akgün stated that the education he received and the care he provided during his student years are different from what he teaches now, emphasizing that learning continues for a lifetime.
