Üsküdar Üniversitesi started its new academic year orientation programs with the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry. In the program, which was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur and the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay, along with academic and administrative staff, department heads and directorates provided information to new students enrolling in Medicine and Dentistry before the new academic year. Additionally, a message on “Addiction” from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector and Head of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan was shared.
The first orientation program of the 2023-2024 academic year was held for Faculty of Medicine students at the Ibn-i Sina Auditorium.
Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur: “Educate yourselves to be good intellectuals”
In the program, which garnered significant interest from students, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur shared insights with new students regarding career acquisition and education in the field. Emphasizing the importance of educating themselves to be intellectuals knowledgeable in all areas, Sur also advised medical candidates on the meaning and significance of the white coat.
Following the orientation for the Faculty of Medicine, an orientation for Faculty of Dentistry students was held in the afternoon.
Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay: “The dentistry profession is far beyond what you imagine”
In the orientation program, the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Dr. Yumuşhan Günay first addressed the students. Günay spoke about the future of the profession and the importance of self-development, stating: “The dentistry profession is like an iceberg, far beyond what you imagine, with much more hidden beneath the surface… As students strive, they uncover these hidden aspects. As they are revealed, the brilliance of the profession increases significantly. It gains a quality that supports and nurtures the belief, 'I'm glad I chose dentistry.' Dentistry has many doors that expand and enrich one's world. It is possible to view the dentistry profession not just through one window, but many. Depending on the window you look through, you see very different sides of the profession. Alongside medical knowledge, you will also need to learn respect, compassion, and reverence for people to make faultless decisions. Never forget this.”
Head of Corporate Communications Department Tahsin Aksu: “I definitely recommend you follow our social media accounts”
In the program, where many department heads provided information about their respective units and operations, Tahsin Aksu, Head of the Corporate Communications Department, in a promotional film prepared for the Corporate Communications Department, stated that they conduct all corporate communication and promotional activities of the university and informed about the areas of work undertaken by the units operating within the Corporate Communications Department. Aksu said: “We organize numerous events throughout the year. Information about these organizations is available in the event calendar on our website. I definitely recommend you follow our social media accounts because we share many announcements and posts on social media accounts before our website.”
Head of Student Affairs Department Cumhur Bakır stated that students can check their attendance, exam grades, course registration details, and exemption request results through the student information system.
Sinan Eker, Head of the Library and Documentation Department, informed students about the libraries on campuses, electronic resources, and book borrowing in a promotional film prepared about the Library and Documentation Department.
Remziye Çopur, Director of the Career Center, in her informational speech about the Career Center Department, provided students with information on internships, alumni relations, and post-graduation employment opportunities.
Dilbar Aliyeva, International Registration and Communication Manager, provided information about the International Relations Department and explained the details regarding Erasmus to students.
Distance Education Assistant Specialist Buse Tekin provided students with information about the “ÜSUZEM Distance Education Application and Research Center.
SKS specialist Kenan Karagöz provided information regarding the activities of the Health, Culture and Sports Department.
Ali Akcan, Hardware Unit Assistant Manager, informed students about the internet service available on every campus, email addresses provided to students, smart boards in classrooms, and computer laboratories in the promotional film prepared about the Information Technologies Department.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s message on ‘Addiction’…
In the final parts of both orientations, a message on “Addiction” from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector and Head of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan was read. Media PR Unit Manager Şaban Özdemir read his message titled “Young Friend, Be Ready for the Beauties of University Life But Don't Forget These.” In his message, Tarhan also shared 24 golden essential skills for a “Happy Life.”
