Üsküdar University's 2025-2026 academic year commenced with the orientation program for the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry. On the first day of the orientation program, held with the participation of academic and administrative staff, students from the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry gathered. Within the scope of the program, department heads and directorates operating under Üsküdar University provided information to the new members of the Üsküdar family.

The orientation program was held at the Ibn Sina auditorium of Üsküdar University NP Sağlık Campus.

The opening speeches of the new academic year orientation program, held in two different sessions, were delivered by Üsküdar University Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak, Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, and Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel.

Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak: "Being a good physician means understanding the patient…"

Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak spoke at the opening of the orientation program. Koçak said; "Medicine is more than a profession; it's a way of life. It's a profession with no distinction between day and night, no Saturdays or Sundays. In fact, this profession is chosen because it serves people. Medicine is not just about writing a prescription and sending the patient away; it is the care you show to a patient who comes to you, physically and mentally, and surrenders themselves. If you don't understand the patient's state of mind, and simply write a prescription and send them off, you won't be a good physician. Being a good physician means understanding the patient."

Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur: "The white coat means hope"

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur discussed the importance of the medical profession. Sur said; "Being a doctor is a demanding profession; if you get too fixated on it, you can enter burnout syndrome, and gradually, the patient's problems may start to concern you less. To avoid this point, it is necessary to acquire productive hobbies like art and travel. Being a doctor is a privilege, but this privilege also has a price; one must work very hard to attain such a privilege. The white coat means hope, it means cleanliness, it means honesty. We must always be honest with our patients, their families, and our friends because we will obtain confidential information, perform procedures on their bodies and souls, and they will try to regain their health with our help."

Following the Faculty of Medicine orientation, an orientation was held for the students of the Faculty of Dentistry.

Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel: "Dentistry is also a master-apprentice profession"

Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Ergün Yücel spoke at the opening of the orientation program. Yücel said; "Your field of work is humanity, and humanity is the most sacred being. We will be very happy to convey to you the most accurate and knowledgeable ways to treat people. On this path, your instructors will be your greatest guides. Our doors are not locked; as long as you have reasonable requests, simply knocking on the door is enough. Dentistry is also a master-apprentice profession. It encompasses elements of both craftsmanship and artistry. Therefore, visual judgment and an aesthetic perspective are very important. It's not just about looking, but truly seeing."
