Meeting Held for Hand Tremor-Stopping Wristband

Üsküdar University held a meeting with BrainPark Incubation Center, operating within its structure, and its entrepreneurial company, ALEA. The meeting was attended by Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Üsküdar University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Furkan Tarhan, Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı, and BrainPark members.

“It is worn as a wristband and reduces tremor by 60-83%”

Prof. Dr. Sultan Tarlacı, who spoke about Essential Tremor and its treatment methods, said: “Within Üsküdar University, working with ALEA, we have a form of tremor here that we call essential tremor, and there are only 2-3 drugs used in its treatment. Two of these can cause very serious side effects. Beyond that, a surgical method called deep brain stimulation is applied, but its cost is very high, and there's also a 4% surgical risk. Approximately 8-10 wristband devices have been produced; they've also made sophisticated devices worn on the wrist. These devices aim to reduce tremor by measuring the electrical activity of muscles and applying electricity to opposing muscles. However, 12-13 of these have never made it out of the laboratory. They haven't reached mass production or the market. They were tested in labs, reviewed, and found to be beneficial. But they couldn't go into mass production; being too sophisticated, they couldn't become commercial. The liquid created by our friends is unique in this group and quite practical to use, requiring no electronic method. It is worn as a wristband and reduces tremor by 60-83%. We are also investigating its effect on tremor while holding coffee, holding a spoon, zipping up…etc.”

During the meeting, which was attended by representatives from ALEA, Üsküdar University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Furkan Tarhan emphasized that the product will meet a significant need, while Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan added that the project is excellent and well-placed.
