Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery faculty member Prof. Dr. Murat Kalemoğlu met with Faculty of Medicine students at an event titled ‘Career Day in Medicine 1’. The event, which detailed post-graduation career plans and different areas of the medical profession, discussed domestic and international medical career opportunities. Important information was also shared with students regarding specialization and academic career paths, as well as the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) exam.

Prof. Dr. Murat Kalemoğlu informed students about the different fields of the medical profession, which are not limited to patient care. Kalemoğlu also discussed becoming an academician, conducting research, and specialization processes abroad.
New Era in USMLE and International Career Opportunities Discussed
Students were also informed about the changes in the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) exam, which must be taken to practice medicine in the USA.
It was emphasized that ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates), the exam's new partners, will continue their certification processes, but the authority to administer the exams has been transferred to USMLE's partners. Simultaneously, the preparation processes for the USMLE exam, its format, and important considerations were discussed in detail.

Practicing Medicine Abroad Discussed
Prof. Dr. Murat Kalemoğlu also discussed the medical processes in countries such as America, England, Italy, Germany, Finland, Canada, and Australia. Detailed information was provided on equivalency exams, internship requirements, language prerequisites, and working conditions in these countries. It was emphasized that USMLE offers the opportunity to practice medicine not only in the USA but also in many different countries.

Concluding his speech by giving advice to the students at the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Murat Kalemoğlu emphasized that medicine is not just a diploma but a continuous process of learning and development. Kalemoğlu also stated that students should be brave when planning their careers, explore different paths, and follow their passions.
