Hatice Nihal Dülger, a 5th-year Faculty of Medicine student who completed her medical internship in the USA last year, this time completed her internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital, affiliated with Columbia University in the USA. Dülger, who seized an internship opportunity alongside Dr. Llyold Rathner, the surgeon who performed the first kidney transplant in America in 2001, had the chance to witness surgeries most doctors wouldn't encounter, while still a student. Dülger also stated that she found the opportunity to participate in and observe many kidney and liver surgeries.

Hatice Nihan Dülger, a 5th-year student at Uskudar University Faculty of Medicine, completed her internship in Transplantation Surgery (organ transplant) at the Surgical Department of New York Presbyterian Hospital, affiliated with Columbia University in New York, USA.

She was the first student to complete a summer internship in America

Dülger, who successfully completed her internship in the Radiology department at “University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center” in the USA last year, earned the title of being the first Faculty of Medicine student among her peers to complete a summer internship abroad, in America, with this achievement. 

She found the opportunity to participate in many kidney and liver surgeries

Hatice Nihal Dülger, whose internship was accepted by Dr. Llyold Rathner, the surgeon who performed the first kidney transplant in America in 2001, noted that she learned a lot of clinical information from Rathner and had the opportunity to participate in many kidney and liver surgeries.  

“I gained the chance to witness surgeries as a student that most doctors might never encounter”

Stating that she believes her internship will be very beneficial for her career, Dülger said: “In America, I gained the chance to witness surgeries as a student that perhaps most doctors would never encounter. As a result of my internship, which I believe will greatly benefit my career, I learned many things. I tried to represent our university in the best possible way. I extend my sincere thanks to my family, who never withheld their material and moral support during this process, to my esteemed teacher Kenan Karagöz who was always by my side during stressful application processes, to my esteemed Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan who supported me in gaining new visions, and to my university.” She expressed her happiness using these words.
