The work titled 'Management of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Working Life,' with a foreword penned by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, has taken its place on the shelves with contributions from experts in the field. Tarhan, in the book's foreword, provided information about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and stated his hope that the book would touch many lives.
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan wrote the foreword for the work titled 'Management of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Working Life,' penned by Dr. Salih Ercan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Tan, and published by Nobel Publications.
'There Was Such a Need'
In the opening lines of the book's foreword, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated: 'There are many scientific publications and much research being conducted on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). However, for the first time, a non-medical professional addresses the topic from their own perspective, concerning working life. There was such a need, and it could provide useful information. This book is indeed valuable for approaching the subject from a different angle with great effort.'
'A Person Cannot Be Their Own Doctor, But Can Help Themselves'
Prof. Tarhan further added in the book's foreword: 'As is known, OCD is a disorder with biological and psychological aspects. A person cannot be their own doctor, but they can help themselves. This is because, especially in advanced stages of this disorder, the brain areas responsible for repetitive thoughts, which are normally like a path, have become like a highway in these individuals. Correcting the brain's infrastructure with medication and neuromodulation treatment is a priority. Thought and emotion management, guided by the therapist during the psychotherapy phase according to the treatment plan, is very valuable for the permanence of the treatment.'
To Manage the 4Ds, It Is Necessary to Manage Brain Programs Well...
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said: 'Every human's psychological capital consists of thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and values (4D). To manage these, it is necessary to use the brain's program effectively. This is where self-help comes into play. Managing psychological capital appropriately, timely, and in moderation, with a resource management mindset, requires time and openness to learning. For this reason, stubborn individuals, trapped in rigidity of thought, become slaves to their fears because they cannot demonstrate mental flexibility.'
'Recovery Through Inclusion in Working Life Is an Ideal Situation'
Tarhan, stating that working a job and having a purpose upon waking up in the morning is a positive area for change for individuals experiencing OCD, added: 'Recovery through inclusion in social and working life is an ideal situation. For this, case examples and experience transfer are very valuable. Mr. Salih Ercan, under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Oğuz Tan, did a very good job by compiling such a wealth of experience into a book. I hope it will touch many lives, and I congratulate them for this valuable resource. I also wish healthy and peaceful learning to the readers.' With these words, the foreword concluded.
The Work Aims to Understand Employee Behaviors
Dr. Salih Ercan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Oğuz Tan aim to contribute to the organizational behavior research literature in this work by offering current, functional, and effective solutions within the context of obsessive-compulsive disorder for understanding, interpreting, and motivating and guiding employee behaviors towards organizational goals.
