Listen to the silent screams…

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vocational School of Health Services Child Development Program and Child Protection and Care Services Program presented the solo exhibition of Photographer K. Deniz Kalaycı on the theme of 'World Children's Rights Day'. Stating that sometimes, as photographers, they express through images what children, women, and people cannot articulate with screams, Kalaycı said that each one turns into a silent scream.

The exhibition, held in the Lobby area of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Çarşı Campus, was attended by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector's Advisor Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, Director of the Vocational School of Health Services Prof. Dr. Mesut Karahan, Head of the Child Development Program at the Vocational School of Health Services Müge Çolakoğlu Özer, and Assistant Director of the Vocational School of Health Services Dr. Lect. Member Feride Kulalı Özdek.

“We wanted to draw attention to children's rights”

In the exhibition, organized to raise awareness about children's rights and to draw attention to children's fundamental rights such as life, shelter, health, and protection, Photographer K. Deniz Kalaycı stated: “The 20th day of November each year is celebrated as 'World Children's Rights Day' in commemoration of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly. Despite the implementation of many norms and mechanisms at universal and regional levels to protect and strengthen children's rights, unfortunately, thousands of children worldwide lose their lives due to hunger, health problems, and wars. In recent days alone, over four thousand children have been massacred in Israeli attacks in Palestine.”

“The photographs we take turn into silent screams”

K. Deniz Kalaycı, referring to how they express through the language of photography what people cannot articulate with screams, and how these photographs turn into silent screams, said: “Beyond being a photographer and a teacher, as a mother, there is something I always say and advocate. Sometimes, we, through the language of photographic art, express words that children, women, and people cannot convey with screams, and the photographs we take turn into silent screams. With the wish that you listen to the silent screams in the photographs in our exhibition, I hope all children worldwide, who deserve the best of everything, lead healthy, happy, peaceful, and successful lives.”

The exhibition awaits its visitors in the Çarşı Campus Lobby area between November 20-30.
