The eleventh session of the “Entangled Histories: Borders and Cultural Encounters from the Medieval to the Contemporary Era” seminar series, organized in cooperation with Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication and Insubria University, was held. The eleventh session of the Entangled Histories: Borders and Cultural Encounters from the Medieval to the Contemporary Era seminar series was held online under the title “Indian Transnational Families in Northern Ireland”.
In the seminar, supported by Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication and the Master's Program in Media and Cultural Studies, speaker Anik Nandi evaluated the experiences of Indian transnational families living in Northern Ireland within a multi-dimensional framework.
Language, identity, and migration axis discussed
The seminar also thoroughly discussed linguistic hierarchies between English and heritage languages in domestic spheres, parents' preferences for preserving cultural identity, and societal dynamics affecting language sustainability in a transnational context.
The seminar, framed around language, identity, and migration, made significant contributions to current academic discussions on multilingualism and cultural transmission processes.
The seminar series will continue until the summer months with public participation.
