IV. Laboratory Animal Use Certificate Program Began

The IV. Laboratory Animal Use Certificate Program, organized by Üsküdar Üniversitesi, has commenced. The ministry-approved laboratory animal certificate program, held at the Faculty of Medicine, once again attracted significant interest. In addition to students, 56 individuals from various professional groups are participating in the certificate program.

The 4th of the IV. Laboratory Animal Use Certificate Program, organized by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Neuropsychopharmacology Application and Research Center (NPFUAM) Experimental Research Unit (ÜSKÜDAB), is being conducted with a total of 56 students, comprising 40 hours of theoretical and 40 hours of practical training, under the supervision of Veterinarian Burcu Çevreli.

The program, held between June 18-28 and conducted with the approval of the Ministry of Food and Forestry, is being carried out within the scope of Üsküdar Üniversitesi's 'Phygital' education approach due to pandemic measures.

Practical Training is Also Conducted in the Certificate Program

Students who receive theoretical training on laboratory animals, experimental disease models, ethical issues, and related general topics also perform practical training on basic interventions used in working with laboratory animals, such as injections, gavage feeding, pre-experiment preparations, animal rights, scientific methods used in working with laboratory animals, and experimental disease models.

Prof. Dr. Tayfun Uzbay: “This Training is a Big Step for Future Projects and Articles”

Prof. Dr. Tayfun Uzbay, Rector's Advisor at Üsküdar Üniversitesi and Head of the Department of Internal Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, participated in the program online, stating, “This training, conducted during the pandemic, is a very significant step for the projects and articles you students will undertake. We are confident that it will make us proud. The most important point for us is that you have earned the certificates we will award. Our minds will be at ease regarding this.”

Prof. Dr. Uzbay: “We Pay Attention to Ethics and Respect for Animals”

Emphasizing the importance of being sensitive regarding animal rights and ethics, Prof. Dr. Uzbay said, “We need these studies to discover new drugs, find the underlying causes of new diseases, and improve human, animal, and natural life. In this situation, the only option we currently have is laboratory animals, but this does not mean we will treat them disrespectfully. We strive to minimize the need for laboratory animals and the suffering they may endure. Therefore, we pay close attention to ethics and respect for laboratory animals. Of course, we do not want them to suffer, and we emphasize this in our training courses.”
