The IV. International Sufism Studies Summer School, organized by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Institute for Sufi Studies, will be held on July 20-28, 2022. The summer school program, which will offer face-to-face or online (remote online) participation, will be supported by Sufi Corner and Kerim Foundation. The summer school will also feature lectures from world-renowned professors and experts from abroad, including Carl W. Ernst, James Morris, Mohammed Rustom, Bruce Lawrence, miriam cooke, and Stephen Hirtenstein.

In the summer school to be held by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Institute for Sufi Studies on July 20-28, 2022, experts from abroad and Üsküdar Üniversitesi Institute for Sufi Studies will give lectures.
Important names from abroad will contribute
At the summer school, Professor of Religious Studies at Boston College, James Morris, will present on ‘Discovering Spiritual Truth: The Interaction of Experience and Perception According to Ibn Arabi’; Carl W. Ernst from the Department of Religious Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA, on ‘Method in Sufi Studies and Citations and Allusions in Sufi Texts: The Case of Omar ibn Said’; Professor of Religious Studies at Carleton University, Mohammed Rustom, on ‘The Essence of Reality According to Ayn al-Qudat: A Defense of the Philosophy of Sufism’; Nancy and Jeffrey Marcus Distinguished Professor of Humanities in Religious Studies at Duke University, Bruce B. Lawrence, on ‘The Logic of Barzakh in Sufism: Architectural Wonders from Ottoman Turkey to Contemporary Iran’; Prof. Dr. miriam cooke from Duke University on Kitab al-Wajd wa’l-Tawajud; Prof. Dr. Yasushi Tonaga from Kyoto University on ‘Sufism Studies in Japan’; and Stephen Hirtenstein from the Oxford Ibn Arabi Society on ‘The Book of Books: Approaching Ibn Arabi’s Fihrist as an Instructive Sufi Work’.

At the summer school, Prof. Dr. Emine Yeniterzi from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Institute for Sufi Studies will lecture on ‘Mazmun (Figurative Expression) in Sufi Turkish Literature’; Prof. Dr. Reşat Öngören on ‘Sources of Ottoman Sufi Thought’; and also IRCICA Director General Prof. Dr. Mahmud Erol Kılıç will give lectures on ‘Ibn Arabi's Ottoman Followers’.
Üsküdar Üniversitesi Rector's Advisor Cemalnur Sargut will lecture on Adab: Ethical Principles; Asst. Prof. Dr. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar on ‘Method and Approach in Sufi Studies’; Asst. Prof. Dr. Dilek Güldütuna on ‘The Concept of Motherhood in Sufism and Samiha Ayverdi’; Asst. Prof. Dr. Omneya Ayad on ‘Beauty (Jamal) and Majesty (Jalal) in Ibn Arabi's Thought’; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Arzu Eylül Yalçınkaya on ‘The Symbolism of Lovers in Hz. Mevlânâ’s Masnavi-ye Ma’navi’.

The summer school program, coordinated by Asst. Prof. Dr. F. Cangüzel Güner Zülfikar from Üsküdar Üniversitesi Institute for Sufi Studies, will offer the opportunity to participate face-to-face or online (remote online). Our Summer School's intensive program will be realized with the support of Sufi Corner and Kerim Foundation.
The Summer School seminars have also been structured as a master's and doctoral course titled 'Approaches to Sufi Texts'. The program can be taken as a credited elective course or as part of a certified training program. All participants who complete the program will receive a summer school certificate.
In the summer school, where the program language is English and Turkish, lectures presented in English will be simultaneously translated into Turkish, and lectures presented in Turkish will be simultaneously translated into English.
Summer school concert and panel will be organized
As part of the program, on July 21, 2022, at 7:00 PM, the La Edri Sufi Music Ensemble, led by Prof. Dr. Vasfi Emre Ömürlü, will give a public concert at the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Nermin Tarhan Hall.
A panel will be organized on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at 12:30 PM, with the participation of all experts giving lectures at the Summer School. The panel will be held publicly at the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Nermin Tarhan Hall.
