The final exam of the Istanbul Science Olympiads (İSBO), organized under the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education's 'From Basic Ideas to Basic Sciences Project' and held for the 9th time this year, took place hosted by Üsküdar University. Students tested their knowledge and took a step closer to the future with this exam, which opens the door to national and international achievements.

Finalists from the preliminary elimination process, which saw 66 thousand students apply, competed in categories such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Computer Science, and Science. Students who successfully passed the initial stages took a significant step towards participating in İSBO training and gaining the right to represent Turkey in international competitions, with the final exam.

Sümeyye Şehitoğlu: “Our goal is to include teachers in this process as well”

Sümeyye Şehitoğlu from the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of National Education stated that the vast majority of students in TÜBİTAK's national teams have been trained within the scope of this project. Şehitoğlu added; “Most of our students representing Turkey in international Olympiads pass through our training. This year, for the first time, a science category was also added. Our goal is to include not only students but also teachers in this process. Our teacher training also continues.”

Olympiad success opens the door to the future…

Many students trained within the scope of İSBO are accepted to prestigious universities like Oxford and Harvard without an entrance exam, thanks to the medals they receive.

The project contributes not only to academic success but also to the development of students as individuals with a scientific thinking system.
