Uskudar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Emergency and Disaster Management Program 2nd-year students and faculty members visited the Istanbul AFAD Unit Directorate and the Uskudar Fire Station. During the visit, which took place under the leadership of Emergency and Disaster Management Program Head Lecturer Esad Sadık Demirtaş, students were informed about disaster and emergency management, and response vehicles, equipment, and personal protective equipment were introduced. Through the simulations conducted, students had the opportunity to learn practical measures to be taken in the event of a disaster.

Information on disasters and emergencies was shared
During the visit, students received comprehensive information regarding disasters and emergencies. Vehicles, equipment, and personal protective gear used in disaster response were introduced. Additionally, technical information on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats was shared.

Practical learning with earthquake simulation…
Through the earthquake, flood, and fire simulation exercises conducted, students had the opportunity to experience situations they might face in a potential disaster or emergency. Particularly with a realistic earthquake simulation, students gained the chance to practically learn the measures to be taken before, during, and after an earthquake.

Fire department organization and operational processes explained
Another point of the visit was the Uskudar Fire Station. Detailed information was shared about the structure of the fire department, response times to incidents, communication processes, and challenges encountered in the field. Specifically, information was provided on the processes experienced in communication lines when an incident occurs, and the green, yellow, and red light system used according to the magnitude of the incidents.
How teams complete their preparations was demonstrated practically
It was practically demonstrated how this system is used to quickly notify standby teams and how teams complete their preparations accompanied by emergency announcements.
Students had the opportunity to observe the fire department's rapid and effective response processes on-site.
