Üsküdar University student Ayşe Akgöz achieved international successes. A scientific research project involving Akgöz was accepted for publication as an article in a prestigious journal. Additionally, Akgöz received a full scholarship acceptance to a doctoral program at a prominent university in Canada.

International Research Article
During her undergraduate studies in the Psychology (English) Department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ayşe Akgöz participated in a research project conducted simultaneously in many countries through the Psychological Science Accelerator, collecting data from thousands of people. The research, led by the University of Glasgow from Scotland and McGill University from Canada, collected data from 11,481 participants from 41 countries.
Ayşe Akgöz coordinated the implementation of the research at Üsküdar University under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asil Özdoğru. Data was collected from 100 Turkish and 12 international students in the university's computer laboratory. Participants were shown photographs of human faces from various ethnic backgrounds on computer screens, and they were asked to rate them according to 13 different personality traits.
This research was a replication of a previous important study on how people perceive other human faces. The earlier research had found that people primarily evaluate face perceptions based on two dimensions (valence and dominance). Since this model was primarily developed and tested in the Western world, it was uncertain how valid the findings would be in other regions of the world. When the data from the new research was examined using original analysis methods, the two-factor model (valence and dominance) was observed in many world regions, while different methods yielded the same results in fewer regions.
The article of this important international research received preliminary acceptance for publication in 'Nature Human Behavior', one of the world's prestigious scientific journals.
Scholarship Acceptance for Doctorate from Canada…
While completing her studies at Üsküdar University, Ayşe Akgöz received full scholarship acceptance to a doctoral program at a prestigious university in the world. Having graduated from the Üsküdar University Psychology (English) undergraduate program, and completing her non-thesis Master's program in Neuroscience at the Institute of Health Sciences at the same university this year, Akgöz was accepted to a doctoral program at McGill University in Canada, which hosts one of North America's largest neuroscience programs.
Ayşe Akgöz, who will continue her research on visual perception with a full scholarship in Canada, stated that Üsküdar University made significant contributions to her professional development. Akgöz stated that the education and research experiences she gained from the Psychology (English) Department and the Neuroscience Master's programs were very valuable. She added that the university's interdisciplinary working principle, which allowed students to take courses from different departments, and international education and internship programs like Erasmus+, played a major role in broadening her vision and setting her future goals. Ayşe Akgöz, who graduated as a High Honors student from both programs at Üsküdar University, expressed her gratitude to all the faculty members and staff of the Üsküdar University family who contributed to her development, especially the Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.
