International Students Met at Iftar Dinner

Üsküdar University international students gathered at an iftar dinner. Students showed great interest in the iftar invitation where Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan delivered the opening speech. Referring to the 'Target Friendship' project in his speech, Tarhan said; 'We all know how difficult it is to be away from home. For this reason, we launched such a project for the first time in Turkey to help you adapt more easily here and to provide you with a bit more support.'

"We want to show you places you haven't seen, and build friendships"

Rector-in-Charge Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy attended the iftar dinner, which was attended by a large number of students, while faculty deans, department heads, academic and administrative staff also showed interest in the iftar gathering.

Üsküdar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who delivered the opening speech, talked to the students about the 'Target Friendship' project supported by the university to help them adapt more easily to Istanbul. Tarhan said; 'As Üsküdar University, we wished to host all our international students for this iftar. However, since the venue was not suitable, we could only host 400 people initially. During Ramadan, you are here, away from your families. This might be a separation, a sadness for you. But I see that you have adapted to Üsküdar. As you know, we launched a "Target Friendship" project. We all know how difficult it is to be away from home. For this reason, we launched such a project for the first time in Turkey to help you adapt more easily here and to provide you with a bit more support. There are 10 student leaders, and we are training about 100 mentors. The aim is to study in groups, get to know Istanbul, and see its tourist attractions. Istanbul is a city of culture, a capital. We want to show you places you haven't seen here and build friendships. The university supports this project. We recommend that you contribute to this and get to know Istanbul better here.'

"Ramadan is an opportunity to discipline our carnal and devilish desires"

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan concluded his speech by informing the students about Ramadan; 'The most significant feature of Ramadan is not just to discipline the feeling of hunger in our stomachs, but also an opportunity to discipline us from bad moral qualities, from such carnal and devilish desires. For this reason, I wish for Ramadan to be a means for your spiritual development. Happy Ramadan.'

The iftar program took place in a warm atmosphere. After the meal, Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan took souvenir photos with the students and signed his book 'Being a Conscious Young Person' for student readers.
