International students gathered at Africa Day event

The “Africa Day” event, organized by Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall in the Central Campus, was enthusiastically celebrated by international students. Üsküdar University, which hosts students from many African countries, stood by its students on this joyous day. 

The event was attended by Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Rector Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci, Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations (English) Prof. Dr. Havva Kök Arslan, and Instructor Olajumoke Elizabeth Ajala from the Department of Common Courses (Foreign Languages). 

The opening speech of the event was delivered by Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “We value not only their academic achievements but also their social and emotional successes.” 

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who delivered the opening speech of the event, said: “I would like to thank you for organizing such a wonderful event. Today, we are all Africans. We value not only the academic achievements of international students but also their social and emotional successes, which is why we have implemented the 'target friend' project. I hope this ceremony will be included in this project. In our project, we used the relationship between African and Turkish cultures with interest and cultural interaction. These kinds of events are very important because we are interacting with each other's cultures. I want to say again today, we are all Africans.” 

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör: “We must work together for world peace.”

Prof. Dr. Nazife Güngör, who delivered her speech at the event, stated: “I am proud of all of you. You know that Üsküdar University is a wonderful university. That's why you are very lucky to be here, and we are very lucky to have you here. Üsküdar University is a center of science with its high-quality staff. Very high-quality productions, very high-quality production and dissemination of knowledge. That's why all of us are very lucky to be here together. Each of you is actually a representative of your culture, your country, and when you return after graduation, you will be a delegate of our culture and Turkey. We must work together for world peace. A peaceful, a more peaceful world and a better humanity. That's why I am proud of you. I am proud that all of you are here, and together we share knowledge, we share culture, and we share everything.” 

The “Celebrating Africa” event, organized by African students studying at Üsküdar University, featured many colorful moments. The positive energy of the students, who are educated thousands of kilometers away from their homes and families, was reflected on everyone. During the enjoyable event, glimpses of African culture were shared with the audience. International students made presentations about their own countries, performed dance shows, and held fashion shows.
