The ‘Insurance, the Profession of the Future’ seminar, organized within the Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services, was held. Latif Bulanık, manager of Özer Group Insurance Company, made evaluations regarding students who want to specialize in insurance and the benefits of the profession, at the event moderated by Lecturer Sıla Meltem Arman from Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services, Social Security Program.
Latif Bulanık: “Insurance is being the hero of those in need”
Stating that insurance essentially involves utmost good faith, Bulanık said: “I do the most beautiful profession in the world. It makes me very happy to be able to affect people when they suffer damages. In a way, you become their hero. There is a concept we call risk. Risks exist in every area of our lives. According to the concept of provision in exchange for a premium, we repair the insured person’s loss. Before this, we collect certain fees, which we call premiums.”
“The most important insurers are teachers”
Bulanık stated that teachers work to increase people's competencies, and the future will be shaped according to you: “You have teachers who work with all their might to develop your insurance, your skills. In Istanbul, we faced a severe storm at the end of November. Many houses collapsed. The damage was severely felt. Cars and buildings are damaged. When we look at the economic conjuncture, it has a very significant impact on costs. Even for just a car window, very serious budgets are allocated. Everyone tries to do something, strives to buy a house, a car. Due to this rise, insurance is important for both the poor and the rich. Precautions should be taken before getting sick, not after. In addition, it is a situation that not only individuals but also companies must do.”
Latif Bulanık: “The foundations of insurance in our country were laid during the Beyoğlu fires”
“The first examples of insurance were made years ago for the cargo carried by a ship named Santa Clara while it was at sea. Coming from the past to the present, especially the London fires in the world lasted for 4 days and caused damage. After this incident, they said that we needed to take precautions regarding this situation. Fire insurance was shaped in this way. Unfortunately, in our country, insurance did not develop during the Ottoman period due to the intensity of capitulations. In the 1800s, after the Beyoğlu fires, precautions began to be taken.”
“Enrolling in the individual retirement system will benefit you”
Latif Bulanık offered advice to students dreaming of a career in insurance: “The real heart of insurance is the Segem certificate. The Segem certificate is an experience that is desired in the sector and provides employment. If you have a Segem certificate, you will not go hungry. Invest in yourself in the work you do in sales channels to gain more income. If there is damage, you will be involved in the damage. If there are friends who are reluctant to sales, I would prefer them to be receptive. Companies also provide you with training. You can develop yourself by starting to work at insurance agencies. You will learn sales marketing, and how to be right in the middle of the screen and the damage. Insurance agencies are the places that are most in touch. If you have a dream in the field of insurance, starting a job at an agency might be better.”
