Fourth-year students from the Department of Industrial Engineering at Üsküdar University’s Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences carried out hands-on projects by designing innovative products that offered solutions to real-world problems within the scope of the Statistical Quality Control course. Conducted under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Münire Berna Beşkese, the project aimed to help students transform theoretical knowledge into real business processes by working with a defined budget, enabling them to gain valuable academic and professional experience.

The projects prepared as final assignments were exhibited at the Üsküdar University Main Campus Lobby, where students both introduced and sold their products.

A strong contribution to applied learning

As a compulsory course, Statistical Quality Control focuses on methods for measuring, analyzing, and improving product and process quality. Within the course design, theoretical content was delivered through pre-recorded video materials, while class time was dedicated to applying this knowledge to real projects. This approach significantly strengthened the applied learning model, increasing the permanence of learning.

Students designed their own products

Students worked in groups of 4–6, each team using the allocated budget to design a product that addressed a specific problem.

Throughout the process, students gained hands-on experience not only in technical aspects but also in market research, competitor analysis, cost calculation, defining quality criteria, sales forecasting, and marketing strategies, which are essential stages of building a business.

Future-oriented skills gained through the course

Beyond mastering course content, the project aimed to develop key competencies highlighted in the 2025 World Economic Forum reports, including:

  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Leadership and problem-solving

The project also demonstrated, in a concrete way, that it is possible to establish an initiative with limited resources, contributing to students’ entrepreneurial mindset.

Contributing to the entrepreneurial university vision

The project aligned closely with Üsküdar University’s mission to educate entrepreneurial, productive, and practice-oriented individuals, creating meaningful awareness around translating theoretical knowledge into real-life applications
