The Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering departments of Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences were accredited for two years by MÜDEK. This significant achievement, reflecting the university's commitment to quality and academic infrastructure, was celebrated with a ceremony. During the program, administrators, academics, and students came together to share in detail the importance of the accreditation process and future goals. MÜDEK, a national quality assurance body recognized by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) in Turkey, evaluates the educational quality of engineering programs according to national and international standards.
The accreditation success was celebrated with a ceremony held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi's Central Campus Nermin Tarhan Conference Hall. The program was attended by Rector's Advisor and Üsküdar Üniversitesi Quality Director, Lecturer Serdar Karagöz, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci, Head of Computer Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Burhan Pektaş, Head of Industrial Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Mehmet Savsar, MÜDEK Coordinator Assistant Professor Orkun Kozanoğlu, MÜDEK Accreditation Team Head Dr. Aydın Kosova, Industrial Engineering Department representative Eren Gizlier, academics, and students.
Lecturer Serdar Karagöz: “This document is an indicator of teamwork carried out with determination”
Rector's Advisor, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Quality Director, Lecturer Serdar Karagöz emphasized Üsküdar Üniversitesi's accreditation success. Karagöz said; “We gathered to celebrate the accreditation success of two departments of our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences. This is not just a document; it is an indicator that reveals our university's commitment to quality, its strong academic infrastructure, and the determined teamwork. As you know, the accreditation process requires determination, patience, and cooperation. I thank all our professors, department heads, our quality unit, and everyone who contributed to successfully carrying out this process. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, we see quality not as a goal, but as a long-term journey. This important step we take today will also form a strong foundation for our future accreditation efforts. I believe that together we will achieve greater successes.”
Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci: “We will develop ourselves, we will take it to a better level”
Delivering the opening speech of the program, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci emphasized the importance of receiving MÜDEK accreditation. Çerezci said; “The excellent positioning in our university's infrastructure, meaning the fundamental information related to quality and beneficial for accreditation, gave us confidence that we could do this work. We brought this process to a very good point with our industrial engineering lecturers. Accreditation is a continuous renewal process in our university and our departments. I believe we will continue this renewal process beautifully. We have indeed made a good start. We are very pleased. Receiving MÜDEK accreditation and its being granted for 2 years is a great gain for us. We will develop ourselves, improve further, and not remain passive. It is a continuous upward climb, a process of exporting quality, and adapting to changes related to accreditation. By working together, as Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, we will definitely achieve the greatest success. We are also very happy to convey the document and good news we received regarding accreditation. At the same time, it is a passport that will put you in the forefront for job, master's, or doctoral applications abroad. I am happy to provide you with such an opportunity.”
Prof. Dr. Burhan Pektaş: “Our goal is to make this system permanent”
MDBF Head of Computer Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Burhan Pektaş emphasized that he was delighted and proud. Pektaş said; “As the Head of the Computer Engineering Department, I am truly delighted and proud. We are very happy to have reached a happy ending in this long process. Throughout the process, as a department, we made great efforts. Our professors showed outstanding effort. This process was very instructive for us. We learned very well how MÜDEK criteria should be and how they should be prepared. Our next goal is to make this system permanent. We received accreditation for two years, and with the interim report we will submit next July, we want to extend this process to five years.”
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Savsar: “By using this success, we will elevate our university to a higher quality education”
MDBF Head of Industrial Engineering Department Prof. Dr. Mehmet Savsar expressed his happiness regarding the accreditation success. Savsar stated; “By undertaking very intensive work, we, as the Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering departments, achieved this success. MÜDEK is a means for us to measure and improve quality. Since education is in the service sector, measuring quality is difficult. This is because inputs in education are not homogenous, the process is complex, and the results are not always clear. However, we are striving to raise quality using every method. The 2-year quality accreditation granted to us is a beginning. By leveraging this success, we will lead our university to a higher quality of education.”
Assistant Professor Orkun Kozanoğlu: “We will conduct a process focused on development and improvement”
MÜDEK Coordinator, Industrial Engineering Department Assistant Professor Orkun Kozanoğlu emphasized that MÜDEK offers opportunities for improvement. Kozanoğlu said; “First of all, our two departments within our faculty have achieved a very important success, but our work does not end here. After this, we will ensure that our other four departments also receive MÜDEK accreditation. Disciplined work, dedication, and challenges await us; however, I believe we will achieve this with sincere effort and strong communication. All our departments and professors should not see this process as a burden. MÜDEK provides us with an opportunity to see what we do well and what we can improve. From now on, we will conduct a process focused on development and improvement. As the Faculty MÜDEK coordinator, I will stand by all our departments.”
Dr. Aydın Kosova: “Wisdom is being aware of what you don't know and pursuing knowledge”
MÜDEK Accreditation Team Head Dr. Aydın Kosova defined quality as a continuous journey. Kosova said; “We live in a digitized information age. The information humankind has produced in the last twenty years is as much as the information accumulated up until twenty years ago. In 2010, the information produced in ten years was equal to the information from ten years prior. Now, the information produced in two years is as much as four thousand years of human history. Wisdom is being aware of what you don't know and pursuing knowledge. Learning individuals are in pursuit of truth and reality. Students should be learning individuals and adopt a learning organizational culture. Üsküdar Üniversitesi is one of two universities in Europe on its way to becoming a brain hub. This journey is very meaningful. May your journey of science be everlasting. I wish you success.”
Eren Gizlier: “MÜDEK accreditation serves as a strong reference”
Industrial Engineering Department Representative Eren Gizlier spoke within the program. Gizlier said; “Today, I am greatly honored and happy to share with you the pride and joy of our department having received MÜDEK accreditation. This achievement is not just a document; it signifies quality and trust, continuity, and development. MÜDEK is an independent and respected organization that certifies the conformity of engineering education to national and international quality standards. MÜDEK accreditation serves as a strong reference for post-graduation job applications and master's degree applications. This success is not only about meeting an academic criterion but also about fulfilling a promise made to its graduates and our students. Let's not forget that MÜDEK is not an end, but a beginning.”
The program concluded with a plaque presentation and a group photo.
