The “Technological Applications in the Field of Orthotics and Prosthetics (3D Printer)” event was held by the Orthopedic Prosthetics and Orthotics program of Üsküdar University Health Services Vocational School (SHMYO). Osteoid Business Development Specialist Anıl Özışık and Osteoid CTO Gökçe Güven attended the event as speakers. The benefits and advantages of 3D technology in production were discussed at the event.

New era in production with 3D technology…
At the organized event, the benefits of 3D printing technology for production processes were highlighted.
It was emphasized that with the elimination of standard molds and foam usage, material waste in production becomes reusable, and waste generation is prevented. It was stated that the reduction in production time and labor needs with 3D technology lowers costs, while the decrease in energy consumption provides environmental and economic benefits.
It was stated that thanks to the flexibility and design capability of 3D printing, complex and ergonomic designs can be easily produced, and special structures such as orthoses tailored to individual measurements can be rapidly developed.
3D printing technology requires precision
It was stated that 3D printing technology, in addition to its advantages, also entails some challenges. It was emphasized that in these systems, which require precise calibration, small deviations in machine settings can lead to defects in the final product.
Furthermore, it was noted that dust and debris affecting device components can impair printer accuracy and cause blockages.
It was stated that the printing process needs to be carefully monitored, especially since printers used for thermoplastics are sensitive to temperature fluctuations. These technical challenges highlighted the need for further development of 3D printing.
The event, where every aspect of 3D technology was discussed, concluded after the presentation of certificates and a group photo session.
