Üsküdar Üniversitesi Visual Communication Design students and Üsküdar Üniversitesi Visual Communication Design Department Head Prof. Dr. And Algül organized an event titled 'The Illustrator's Survival Guide and Entrepreneurship'. At the event, where Nurgül Şenefe, Founding President of the Illustrators Platform, was a guest, Nurgül Şenefe offered advice to students about the industry.
"We Are in a Sector Guided by Copyright Law"
Nurgül Şenefe, highlighting the factors to consider when taking on clients, said; "We are in a sector solely governed by copyright law. Professional definitions and standards for graphic designers and illustrators don't even exist yet. As a platform, we are conducting work in those areas as well. Contract awareness is valuable. Some employers are aware of this, while others are not. Therefore, without assuming the other party knows everything, there are principles you need to know from your side. The indispensable part of the most basic contract is this: you don't have to be a lawyer, but you must have good judgment."
"The Brain Doesn't Like Open-Ended Information"
Şenefe, drawing attention to the anxieties experienced by young people, said; "There are situations where we feel very justified in our own country, in the economy. The key here is that you should first look at the situation. Factors causing anxiety are not under your direct management. What is within your control includes time management, your choices, equipping yourself as much as possible, enhancing your skills and abilities, and your motivation. The brain does not like open-ended information. Our definitions in life—our good, our bad, our fears, anxieties, joys, etc.—are all related to how we perceive everything. Whatever you make the brain think, it believes is real. Instead of choosing to feel anxiety, focus on the areas you can manage."
"Attach Importance to Your Personal Development"
Şenefe, stating the importance of enhancing personal development, said; "It is very important to improve our time management skills. Pay attention to your overall personal development. Because we are now moving towards an age of wisdom. This is why we can't keep up with everything. There is too much information. The more we inform ourselves, the better we can use information, the more we internalize knowledge and teachings as our own capital, the more creative, powerful, and free from anxieties we become."
