Within the scope of the International Week of Struggle Against Violence Against Women, an information meeting titled 'TİHEK as a National Human Rights Institution' and 'Women's Rights' was held by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Human Rights Studies Application and Research Center (İHAMER) and the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Turkey (TİHEK). TİHEK Assistant Specialist Ayşe Begüm Başbozkurt attended the online meeting as a speaker.

Students from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Communication attended the conference, which was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ebulfez Süleymanlı, Director of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Human Rights Studies Application and Research Center (İHAMER) and Head of the Sociology Department.
TİHEK's establishment purpose and activities were explained
TİHEK Assistant Specialist Ayşe Begüm Başbozkurt, who gave a speech at the meeting, first explained the historical development, duties, and authorities of national human rights institutions. She elaborated on TİHEK's establishment purpose, legislation, duties, and authorities. She discussed the institution's three main responsibilities: the protection and development of human rights, the national prevention mechanism, and combating discrimination and promoting equality.
In this context, Başbozkurt mentioned visits made as part of the national prevention mechanism, stating that the institution has examined numerous cases and provided examples from international symposiums, national workshops and meetings, individual application decisions, and training sessions. She also stated that they participated in and contributed to many activities of their national and international stakeholders, underlining that Üsküdar Üniversitesi holds a very important place among these stakeholders.
Applications regarding violence against women are evaluated within the framework of the prohibition of discrimination and the principle of equality
Başbozkurt stated that violence against women continues to be one of the most significant problems in our country and worldwide, and that the institution organizes various activities and carries out awareness-raising efforts to solve this problem.
Başbozkurt emphasized that in recent years, complaints and applications regarding the prohibition of discrimination and the principle of equality have been received by various rights-seeking mechanisms, and that investigations have been conducted and concluded on these matters.
