Today, rapidly developing artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are bringing about fundamental changes in the business world, while redefining the essential skills individuals need to possess.
Addressing the basic AI skills employees should have, Software Engineer Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz stated, "Individuals who do not improve their professional performance with AI will not be able to provide the expected performance outputs (reports, results, etc.) from their professions and will fall behind this transformation. You might manage to lag behind this transformation for a short while, but you could lose your job when the transformation is complete."
Regarding the future role of "hybrid professions" where humans and artificial intelligence work together, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz said, "The definition of a hybrid profession is shaped by how well you can adapt to AI and how you draw a boundary with your professional expertise when accepting it into your life. This can provide a future where we do not lose our human aspects and continue to develop, both for you and for our world."

Üsküdar University, Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Software Engineering (English) Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz evaluated the importance of artificial intelligence literacy and the "hybrid professions" of the future.
Self-updating individuals think fast, develop…
Stating that the routines required by the concept of literacy have changed a lot, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz said, "The more up-to-date literacy skills you have, the faster you can think and develop yourself. Today, the most current example of this is artificial intelligence (AI) literacy. Transferring your existing academic skills to these applications and not undermining the learning process is the most important transition criterion. The way we incorporate evolving technologies into our daily lives also transforms the way we develop ourselves."
Not surrendering expertise, but handling hindrances…
Addressing the basic artificial intelligence skills employees should have, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz stated, "The most important part here begins with distinguishing job-specific requirements from tasks that require general business skills. If being able to perform the continuous office tasks required while demonstrating your expertise, with a correct methodology, saves you time, would you prefer to have the tasks that hinder your expertise resolved faster, rather than surrendering your expertise? The answer you give to this question is the starting point for the fundamental equation that initiates your expectations for artificial intelligence and enables you to increase your own performance."
Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz emphasized that the basic skill is to define AI-suitable workloads or job sectors.
You could lose your job when the transformation happens!
Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz warned, "Individuals who do not improve their professional performance with AI will not be able to provide the expected performance outputs (reports, results, etc.) from their professions and will fall behind this transformation. You might manage to lag behind this transformation for a short while, but you could lose your job when the transformation is complete."
In which professions is integration happening fastest?
Also touching upon the professions where artificial intelligence integration is happening fastest, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz said, "The fastest transformation is occurring within the system itself. The higher the reliability of the outputs provided by AI in its area of use, the more applicable and acceptable it becomes. These ethical discussions are particularly common in the fields of law and healthcare. The important thing here is to determine the purpose of integration and adopt a sector-specific AI approach. This will, over time, create a universality regarding areas that will affect and be accepted by countries and the global order."
The changing function of artificial intelligence in professions
Detailing how the function of artificial intelligence is changing in professions such as doctors, teachers, engineers, journalists, and lawyers, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz continued:
"AI can perform calculations within limits to support a doctor's decision-making process (such as diagnosis or medication dosage adjustment). It can develop presentation and training tools for a teacher using documents updated every term or month. For an engineer, it can detect and self-correct erroneous lines of code in the software they developed without hours of searching. It can read a journalist's text and make it capable of increasing the circulation of publication content; at the same time, it can support their news with a low-cost production using an AI-powered visual creation tool. For a lawyer, it can compare the statements in a case file with laws and previous case records to determine if a statement is effective. Contributions towards generative AI can, of course, be used in every professional group, but the most important thing is not to compromise professional boundaries and decision-making capabilities."
Efficiency and decision-making in business processes
Explaining how the use of artificial intelligence affects efficiency and decision-making processes, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz said, "Recording and digitally archiving repetitive tasks that we spend a lot of time on in our routines, in a written format, is one of the fundamental requirements for artificial intelligence efficiency. The more understandable and processable you make your data, the more you can provide or obtain all decisions made using your expertise and all outputs obtained as a result, with the desired benefit."
The coexistence of human and artificial intelligence: "hybrid professions"
Regarding the future role of "hybrid professions" where humans and artificial intelligence work together, Assistant Professor Dr. Mehmet Kaan İldiz concluded, "In the current time where you can perform your profession with a virtual existence, either by audibly speaking and simultaneously discussing a visual you see, or with an AI-supported robot remotely controlled by different types of game controllers; the definition of a hybrid profession is shaped by how well you can adapt to AI and how you draw a boundary with your professional expertise when accepting it into your life. This can provide a future where we do not lose our human aspects and continue to develop, both for you and for our world."
