Experts stating that hot weather and rising humidity negatively affect the skin emphasize that the secret to having healthy and radiant skin every season lies in choosing the right products and making sun protection a lifestyle.

Birgül Erbaş, Lecturer and Head of the Hair Care and Beauty Services Program, noting that going out in the sun without protection, applying excessively heavy makeup, not drinking enough water, and sleeping without removing makeup negatively affect skin health, said: “The secret to protecting our skin is to choose the right products, let the skin breathe with light makeup, and make sun protection a habit. This way, it is possible to achieve both a healthy and radiant appearance.”

Lecturer Birgül Erbaş, Head of the Hair Care and Beauty Services Program at Üsküdar University School of Health Services Vocational College, made critical warnings for healthy and radiant skin. 

Heat and humidity affect skin health 

Lecturer Birgül Erbaş, stating that the warming effect of the sun and increased humidity negatively affect skin health, said: “Choosing the right products is crucial to protect our skin and maintain a well-groomed appearance. The most effective way to protect against the harmful effects of sun rays every season is to use sunscreen. Sunscreens containing at least SPF 30 with UVA-UVB filters should be reapplied regularly, and physical protectors like hats and glasses should also be preferred.”

Water-based moisturizer should be used

Erbaş, pointing out that hot weather increases skin's moisture loss, said: “Therefore, water-based, light moisturizers should be used. Products containing aloe vera and hyaluronic acid refresh the skin and lock in moisture. Regular moisturizing also reduces the formation of skin spots. One of the most common problems seen on the skin is sun spots. Antioxidant-rich serums like Vitamin C help prevent the formation of spots. For existing spots, treatment should be applied with expert support.”

Apply makeup without stressing the skin

Lecturer Birgül Erbaş, noting that the goal of makeup, especially in warm months, is to achieve a natural glow without stressing the skin, stated: “Thin BB/CC creams or light foundations, water and sweat-resistant mascara and eyeliner, and lipsticks and blushes in natural tones can be preferred. For makeup to last in hot weather, products should be checked for 'waterproof' and 'long-lasting' labels. Waterproof makeup products should be removed with bi-phase or oil-based cleansers. Sleeping with makeup on at night is one of the most common mistakes, preventing the skin from breathing.” 

We must make sun protection a habit
