Healthcare professionals gathered for ‘Sleep Health’

An event titled “Diagnosis and Treatment of Sleep Disorders” was organized by the Electroneurophysiology Program of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO). The program, which drew attention to sleep hygiene, covered diseases such as sleep apnea, insomnia, and parasomnia. Furthermore, processes such as patient preparation, Polysomnography recording, and PAP Titration were practically demonstrated within the scope of laboratory applications.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seçil Bahar Dal, ENT Specialist from American Hospital, and Esra Şahin, Electroneurophysiology Technician from American Hospital, were guests at the event held at the Emirnebi Conference Hall on Üsküdar Üniversitesi Çarşı Campus. 

The event, organized to raise awareness about sleep health, share practical patient preparation, patient reporting, and current developments, was moderated by Lect. Recep Yılmaz, Head of SHMYO Electroneurophysiology Program. 

Healthcare professionals, academics, and students gathered at the event, where modern diagnostic methods and treatment approaches for sleep disorders were discussed in detail.

Lect. Recep Yılmaz: “Sleep problems underlie many chronic diseases”

Making the opening speeches of the program, Yılmaz stated that sleep health is not sufficiently valued in society. Emphasizing that sleep problems lie at the root of many chronic diseases, Yılmaz discussed the history of sleep and gave important tips for healthy sleep. Stating that every recording made by healthcare professionals is the gold standard, Yılmaz remarked that every new piece of information learned is very valuable for both personal development and contributing to society. 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seçil Bahar Dal: “Sleep problems are not just individual, but a societal health issue”

Speaking at the program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seçil Bahar Dal, ENT Specialist from American Hospital, gave a presentation on sleep apnea, insomnia, parasomnia, PAP therapy, and surgical treatments. Stating that “Sleep problems are not just individual, but a societal health issue,” Dal also touched upon current diagnostic methods, as well as the use of CPAP devices, behavioral therapy, and non-pharmacological treatment alternatives.  

Information provided about laboratory processes

In the second session of the program, practical patient preparation, materials and devices used in Polysomnography recording were informed about by Electroneurophysiology Technicians Burcu Acembaba and Esra Şahin regarding laboratory processes.

A Polysomnography test and CPAP device were connected to volunteer student Adem Kolaş, and PAP Titration was focused on. 

After the Polysomnography recording, guests’ questions were answered. Reporting was also done after the Polysomnography recording.  

Aimed at raising public awareness against sleep disorders

The seminar aimed to increase public awareness against sleep disorders and ensure healthcare professionals access up-to-date information in this field, explaining all potential challenges they might encounter through practical training. 

Lect. Recep Yılmaz, Head of the Electroneurophysiology Program at the Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO), presented certificates and sapling donation certificates to the participants at the end of the event. 

The highly anticipated event concluded with a group photo session.
