German Social Services Group Visits Üsküdar

Under the leadership of Şenay Awad and Hülya Sarıkaya, members of the SmF Sozialdienst Muslimischer Frauen Derneği visited Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of the Philosophy Department at Üsküdar University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The delegation then attended the lecture of Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış, Head of the Social Work Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of KÜGEMER.

Information Provided on the Environmental Ethics Forum and al-Mizan-World Environmental Convention

Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, Head of the Philosophy Department at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, provided the guests with information about the Environmental Ethics Forum and the al-Mizan-World Environmental Convention. The environmentalists in the group agreed with Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir to collaborate on a joint project.

Interactive Lecture Followed with Great Interest

After visiting Prof. Dr. İbrahim Özdemir, the delegation attended the lecture of Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış, Head of the Social Work Department at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the Globalization and Youth Issues Application and Research Center (KÜGEMER).

Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış, who welcomed the German Group by speaking German, stated that he had lived in Germany for a period and was well-acquainted with the German education and healthcare systems. The delegation followed Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış's interactive lecture with students with great interest, frequently asking for additional information with their questions. Prof. Dr. İsmail Barış explained the social work practices in our country in detail with examples.

Concrete Steps to Be Taken with Joint Projects

Özdemir, evaluating the visit, stated: “SmF-Bundesverband is a social services association aiming to advance Muslim welfare. The association also strives to make the welfare of Muslim women visible for the entire society. It advocates for the empowerment of women and, furthermore, for compensating the disadvantages of children, youth, women, men, and the elderly. SMF sees its focus in social work and positions itself for the welfare of Muslim women. SMF considers cooperation with Muslim umbrella organizations important. In this context, they expressed their desire to collaborate with Üsküdar University. Concrete steps regarding joint projects will be taken in the coming days.”

The delegation expressed their admiration for Üsküdar University's infrastructure and its location in the heart of the city. The visit concluded after lunch and a commemorative photo session.
