Dr. Claire Richard from the University of Worcester, UK, was this week's guest speaker at the faculty seminar organized by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Richard delivered a presentation in English titled “Researching Gender-Based Violence: The Challenges and Ethical Consideration.”

During her presentation at the faculty seminar, Dr. Claire Richard stated that gender-based violence is prevalent in various forms today and is primarily categorized into physical and psychological violence. Dr. Richard emphasized that psychological violence can manifest through methods such as manipulating the other party, gaining control, and making them feel unsuccessful.

Dr. Richard also emphasized, “Specifically regarding gender-based violence, various prevention and education programs have been developed to combat this type of violence, and these practices help reduce the tendency towards violence. According to Dr. Richards, in studies examining gender-based violence, care must be taken in processes involving victims and perpetrators, and spaces must be created where victims can protect themselves during research.”
Dr. Richard concluded her presentation by providing examples of research on gender-based violence conducted at her own university and in universities in Turkey.
