Fighting Dementia: Time to Act for Alzheimer's!
The theme for this year's event held at Kadıköy Municipality Alzheimer Center within the scope of September 21 World Alzheimer's Day was determined as “Fighting Dementia: Time to Act for Alzheimer's”.
Every 3 seconds, people around the world are diagnosed with dementia…
Üsküdar University Institute of Social Sciences (SOBE) Lecturer Dr. İdil Arasan Doğan, drawing attention to the expectation that the number of individuals diagnosed with dementia will be around 139 million by 2050, said; “This theme emphasizes the urgent need for action, particularly for Alzheimer's, which has an increasing diagnostic rate every day, to reduce its negative effects on individuals living with the disease, their family caregivers, and society. As stated in the 2024 World Alzheimer's report, every three seconds, people around the world are diagnosed with dementia, and the number of individuals diagnosed with dementia is expected to be around 139 million by 2050. In this disease, which makes individuals dependent on another person for daily living activities over time, care, in particular, comes to the fore as a problem. Regarding this issue, the report states that although relatives of patients may not volunteer, they are forced to care for their patients in their own homes due to increasing care costs. This process also negatively affects the psychological health of the caregiver. University, association, and municipality collaborations offer hope for dementia, which is turning into a serious public mental health problem, in terms of both patient-oriented activities and informative and psychological support applications for caregivers.”
