Future Physiotherapists Donned Their White Coats in a Ceremony

Students of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, experienced the excitement of their white coat ceremony. The traditional white coat ceremony garnered significant interest from the students' families. Speaking at the ceremony, Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci said; “The white coat has become synonymous with our profession and is now a symbol. We are handing over your white coats as a symbol of responsibility and the passion to serve all people, regardless of religion, language, or race. Wearing this white coat is a privilege; never allow it to be soiled.” During the ceremony, Muhammed Emin Kılay, a Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department student who lost his life, was also remembered. Kılay's white coat was presented to his friends and family.

The ceremony held at Üsküdar Üniversitesi NP Health Campus, Ibn-i Sina Auditorium, drew significant attention. Following a moment of silence and the recitation of the National Anthem, which marked the beginning of the ceremony, a music recital was performed by the students of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department.

Subsequently, opening speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci, Head of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department; Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Dean of Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences; second-year Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department student Sıla Merve Adak; and third-year students Meral Aydın and Amin Daneshfar. 

The white coat ceremony was attended by Rector's Advisor Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin, Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci, Head of Perfusion Department Dr. Lecturer Zehra Akgün, Head of Nutrition and Dietetics Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Müge Arslan, and faculty academicians. 

Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci: “Wearing this white coat is a privilege”

Emphasizing that health is among the most important factors determining human quality of life, Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci said; “The most basic expression of a healthy life is the state of feeling good physically, mentally, and spiritually. The goal of restoring function to limbs that are completely or partially dysfunctional due to congenital conditions, acquired conditions, or incapacities, injuries, or traumas that may arise at any point in life forms the basis of the principles of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, we continue our education with great dedication and without compromising quality, aiming to train knowledgeable, confident, well-equipped, and innovative students who can utilize their professional knowledge at the highest level, prioritize scientific values, embrace their profession and its related conditions, and provide the best service to their patients. The white coat has become synonymous with our profession and is now a symbol. We are handing over your white coats as a symbol of responsibility and the passion to serve all people, regardless of religion, language, or race. Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin: “Human life has extended, there is a great need for physical therapy and rehabilitation”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Dean Prof. Dr. Arif Aktuğ Ertekin stated that the need for physical therapy and rehabilitation has increased with the extension of human life. Ertekin; “Wearing a white coat is a great privilege in the field of health. It grants the right and ability to touch people. You will now be members of the healthcare army. You will support people during their most difficult and troubled times. Looking at it as a branch and department, human life has extended, and there is a great need for physical therapy and rehabilitation. Especially today, artificial intelligence has developed. The pride and joy of being able to get a person who cannot move at all to stand up and walk again through various electronic methods is truly incredible. You will find practical application areas related to this subject at this school, and I believe that you will become very good and highly competent individuals in your profession.”

His White Coat Was Handed Over to His Friends…

Head of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department Prof. Dr. Deniz Demirci extended his condolences to the family and relatives of his deceased student and presented the white coat of Muhammed Emin Kılay, a Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Department student who lost his life, to his friends and family.
