A promotional launch was held for “Fundamentals of Chemical Reaction Engineering -Fundamentals of Cremical Reaction Engeneering”, the work of Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin, Advisor to the Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi and Head of the Chemical Engineering (English) Department. Faculty members and students from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences attended the event held in the Kuleli Hall of the Central Campus. The work, which particularly appeals to undergraduate students within the scope of the Chemical Reaction Engineering (CRE) course, stands out with its Turkish and English language options. The work, expected to fill a significant gap in the CRE textbook field, was published by Üsküdar Üniversitesi Publications.
Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin: “I see this book as a unique work”
Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin, Advisor to the Rector and Head of the Chemical Engineering (English) Department, made remarks at the launch of his published work. Gültekin underlined that the book is a unique work in its field; “We have now put Turkish books aside. The book I will write is the most important book in chemical engineering, in terms of its course. Reaction engineering. Experiences have shown me that, for example, here at our university, we have Turkish education, and English education. We have Turkish students, and international students from the Middle East. So I thought, could I write a book that could somehow meet the needs of both sides? My PhD topic is already chemical reaction engineering. Let's write such a book on this so that there is no problem with translation. Therefore, I mostly gave classes in English abroad, which is normal. I also gave them in Turkey, and I said I would write such a book in chemical reaction engineering and medicine. We started, my start was in Kyrgyzstan. It's a very calm place. A peaceful place. Nobody talks about anyone in a negative way; it would rather be in the form of scientific debates. So there was what we call a peaceful mind there. We started there, making some final touches here, and as you can see, and as your friends hold it, this book of ours has emerged. The feedback I have received so far from publishers or some of my colleagues is very positive. Because I personally haven't seen such a book. I haven't seen both English and Turkish by the same author. So it's something unique. I see it as a distinctive book. Seeing it this way, in subsequent works, and for instance, some more books are coming, these are currently, for example, what we call mathematical modeling, in the same format for both English and Turkish. In the preface of this book, our Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan penned an article. He also wanted a series of such books to be written and presented to students. We are currently pursuing this. Of course, I was extremely pleased that our Dean came here. As you know, I was the founding dean here, of the faculty of engineering. We are conveying our experiences to our professor, as much as we can, whether he takes it or not, I don't know. Of course, dear Prof. Dr. Tunç Çatal was a very diligent colleague whom we loved during my time. Professor Murat is a colleague whom I love and appreciate very much. They did not leave me alone today, I thank each of them very much. We have other colleagues, and students in the back.” he said.
Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci: “Writing technical books is really difficult”
Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, made remarks about the book's writing process at the launch of Prof. Dr. Selahattin Gültekin's new work. Prof. Dr. Osman Çerezci; “Çerezci highlighted the difficulties of writing a book on a technical subject, underlining that the Üsküdar Üniversitesi Dean's Office always supports scientific studies. Çerezci; “First of all, I congratulate him; of course, I am one of the first to congratulate him. Selahattin Hodja asked for our permission to do this work. My personal opinion was not very positive because there is a saturation in terms of books. Of course, Turkish students are quite accustomed to English. However, later on, our professor explained, and brought the fascicles of the work, which I examined, and he needed to get permission from the dean's office before such a work. We granted that permission, and our professor produced a very determined and beautiful work. Üsküdar Üniversitesi, of course, always encourages such work, and it was good to organize such a meeting. We will continue to be together in future works as well. And of course, writing technical books is really difficult, as Selahattin Hodja said, formulas, figures, etc., require a lot of effort. As you can imagine, research assistants also provide a lot of support in this regard. The Chemical Engineering Department, and especially our Selahattin Hodja, congratulate those who put in the effort, and of course, we expect more to come. If there is a series of other books, it will gain a good place in our country's education, it will be original. I have also written 6 books, so I know how difficult it is.” he said.
