Emphasizing that the family, the cornerstone of society, must be built on solid and strong foundations, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, included a 10-point “Marriage Intention Contract” in his book “The Last Refuge: Family”. The contract states, “We are two separate individuals, yet parts of a whole. We will not forget the balance between our freedoms and responsibilities,” emphasizing that common ideals aim for a lifelong cohabitation based on love, respect, and trust.

Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan recommended the implementation of a marriage intention contract to strengthen the family institution, which is the cornerstone of society.
The 10-point “Marriage Intention Contract” addressed by Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan in his book “The Last Refuge: Family” is as follows:
I unconditionally accept the following articles:
1-We are two separate individuals, yet parts of a whole. We will not forget the balance between our freedoms and responsibilities.
2-Our common ideals aim for a lifelong cohabitation based on love, respect, and trust.
3-We will make major decisions together. Our most important values when making decisions are openness, honesty, unconditional love, and empathy. Our method is an effort to understand each other's wishes, feelings, and needs to establish good cooperation.
4-Even if we think differently, we will learn a lot from each other, and we will develop solutions by talking and using languages of love.
5-First and foremost, we will try to develop ourselves, not each other.
6-We will respect each other's private and quiet moments and aesthetic sensibilities.
7-We will make our home a well-ordered environment in accordance with universal values, and we will adhere to these rules together.
8-Our other family relatives and elders are valuable and important to us. However, we will take care to keep our private matters to ourselves.
9-In our relationship, trust is the rule, suspicion is the exception. In times of crisis, I accept the arbitration of my family elders and experts.
10-I am aware that our home must be a warm, lovely, and happy environment for our children to be well-raised.
