Üsküdar University Foreign Languages Coordination English Preparatory School added a new one to its activities that promote academic communication and critical thinking. The Preparatory School hosted İstanbul Aydın University Preparatory School students in a debate event. In the event, students addressed the topic of “Transition from Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy” with its environmental, economic, and ethical dimensions.

Preparatory school students evaluated energy policies with a critical perspective

The debate event, held at Üsküdar University Main Campus with the participation of İstanbul Aydın University Preparatory School students, took place under the leadership of Foreign Languages Coordinator Instructor Dilek Batur.

In the event, where the topic of “Transition from Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy”, one of the most important agendas of the modern world, was discussed, students had the opportunity to evaluate energy policies from different perspectives.

Students demonstrated critical thinking skills
Throughout the debate, students discussed not only the advantages of renewable energy but also the logistical and environmental challenges brought about by this transition process. Defending their views with data-driven arguments, students analyzed opposing ideas, demonstrating high-level critical thinking and communication skills.
The event contributed to students expressing themselves in a professional environment and experiencing academic discussion culture.

Emphasis on “real health costs” drew attention
At the end of the session, evaluations were made on the real health costs of current energy models. The discussions drew attention to the importance of sustainable decision-making processes while giving important messages to the audience regarding environmental awareness.
While the collaboration contributed to strengthening academic ties between Üsküdar University and İstanbul Aydın University, student-focused academic events are aimed to continue in the future.
