Forensic Science Students in the Field…

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, the Forensic Sciences department, which offers education only at Uskudar University in Turkey, continues its field studies alongside theoretical lessons. Students conducted this week's lessons at Gümüşyolu Park in Uskudar. Students first cordoned off the area with safety tape and then had the opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge in the field under the guidance of Atasoy and the training staff.

Students of Uskudar University's Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Forensic Sciences, conducted their practical lessons at Gümüşyolu Park. The lesson, led by Sevil Atasoy, Vice-Rector of Uskudar University and Director of the Institute of Addiction and Forensic Sciences, also attracted the attention of local residents.

Forensic Sciences, which offers education only at Uskudar University in Turkey under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sevil Atasoy, is a field that provides technical services in proving crimes and criminals, and in identifying perpetrators. It provides services in the criminal field for the prevention and elucidation of many crimes increasing worldwide, such as terrorist incidents, human trafficking, cybercrimes, bribery, and arms smuggling. In the Forensic Sciences department, students are offered numerous elective courses, practical applications, and internship opportunities in addition to theoretical education.

“Future Forensic Scientists are being trained with full equipment” 

Over four years, students are given courses such as Introduction to Forensic Sciences, Introduction to Turkish Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, Expert Witnessing and Ethics, Crime Scene Investigation, General Principles of Constitutional Law, Criminalistics, Instrumental Analysis, Drugs and Crime, Fingerprint and Ballistic Examination, Reconstruction in Firearm Use, Investigation in Forensic Informatics Crimes, and Forensic Laboratory Management.

Uskudar University's Department of Forensic Sciences offers future forensic scientists the opportunity for practical work and application in the field. The applied training provides comprehensive courses ranging from crime scene investigation to DNA analysis, from ballistics to soil analysis, and even digital evidence.

“Devices equipped with the latest technology are being used” 

Uskudar University's Department of Forensic Sciences, possessing numerous devices and infrastructure such as equipment capable of performing all types of DNA analysis, state-of-the-art devices used for document and signature examination (which are limited in number in Turkey), comparison microscopes necessary for ballistic and firearms science training, and microscopes used for comparing insects, takes justifiable pride in being the first and only in its field, while continuously developing itself every day.
